Henri Charriere who wrote the famous book by the same title and the movies that followed, but were these his stories alone? Charles Brunier claimed he was the true inspiration and others believed it was Rene Belbenoit who partook in cannibalism with his fellow escapees becoming the inspiration for the movie "Condemned to Devil's Island" and "Passage to Marseille" staring Humphrey Bogart. We will never know who was the real Papillion, but listen to this weeks episode so you may draw your own conclusion.
