We discuss the power of adoptee stories in correcting social myths around the idea of being “grateful.” We explore the need to “fix” things or “figure it out” because adoptees are always searching for their identity, their biological family, or a therapist to connect to! We cover surrogacy, foster care, trauma responses, the higher risk of suicide for adoptees, somatic therapies, and “the science” behind the effect of early life separation from birth mothers in a system that buys and sells children, as well as alternatives to growing up in abusive homes in general.
