    Feb 18 2025

The Tuskegee Syphilis Study has to be one of the most shocking and unethical medical experiments in United States history. What was perceived to be a harmless medical study turns in to a 40-year nightmare for hundreds of African American men in the South, This episode exposes the truth behind the US Public Health Service study that promised care but instead delivered deception, denying treatment even after a cure was discovered AND readily available.

  • From the Vault - Mary Jane Kelly - The Ripper's Final Victim
    Feb 11 2025

From the Vault - The fifth and final canonical victim of the serial killer known as Jack the Ripper...allegedly... was Mary Jane Kelly, a woman who was an enigma, with a hidden past that no-one could quite figure out. In this episode I share what we do know about Mary Jane and then my friend Melissa from God's Favourites podcast has a chat about how Kelly's addition to the FIve just doesn't add up and how she may bot be a victim of Jack after all...

  • From the Vault - Catherine Eddowes - The Ripper's Fourth Victim
    Feb 11 2025

From the Vault - With the news cycle circling a tenuous link to a Jewish immigrant in London, for absolutely no reason whatsoever, let's focus on what we do know of about the Whitechapel murderers, the victims. Their lives, their stories. Let's hear about Catherine Eddowes, the fourth canonical victim of Jack the Ripper.

Love listening to Katie

As a history person myself I love listening to Katie. Her informal style and reflections on what happened keep the stories from getting bogged down in facts and allows the events and people to shine in the retelling. Occasionally, she'll leave me wanting more information, for example she might state that a person was cruel without giving examples, and I'll think: but how Katie? Did he beat his wife? Was he oppressive to his tenants?etc. But I also realize she only has so much time to tell a story and some details may need to be left out. If I'm still sufficiently curious when she finishes her story I'll look up more information myself.

I also suffer terrible insomnia and listen to Katie as I lie in bed. The stories distract me from the pain that keeps me awake and sometimes even help me fall asleep.
