Z pszczołami ma się sprawa podobnie jak z wieloma rzeczami tego świata. Dostrzegamy różne fakty, śledzimy obyczaje, powiadamy: robią to a to, pracują w ten a ten sposób, królowa tak przychodzi na świat, robotnice są dziewicami, rój następuje w tym a tym czasie. Wydaje nam się, że poznaliśmy wszystko, i nie pytamy o więcej. Widzimy, jak śpieszą z kwiatu na kwiat, obserwujemy rozgwar i ruch ula, a egzystencję tę uważamy za bardzo prostą, wyznaczając jej granice od instynktownego szukania karmy do również instynktownego rozmnażania się.

Der berühmte französische Einbrecher erscheint in verschiedenen Verkleidungen und führt die Polizei ständig an der Nase herum. Selbst bei seiner Verhaftung und dem Aufenthalt im berüchtigsten Gefängnis von Paris ist er seinen Gegnern stets voraus und macht sich über sie lustig. Weder große Geldbeträge noch Schmuck oder Kunstgegenstände sind vor ihm sicher. Sogar der weltbekannte britische Detektiv Sherlock Holmes hat gegen Lupin keine Chance.

Maeterlinck, premio Nobel della letteratura nel 1911, poeta e drammaturgo, scrive questo racconto nel 1901. Arsenio Lupin innamorato! Certamente, come in tutte le sue imprese, l'amore non è un amore assolutamente fuori dall'ordinario, e che lo porterà a risolvere un vecchio mistero, un'eredità scomparsa, e ad una delle sue schermaglie con la polizia francese.

Un romanzo complesso in cui Arsenio Lupin interviene solo per sciogliere un enigma che sembrerebbe incomprensibile. Oltre alle vicende misteriose che si intrecciano attorno alle vite di un capitano e di un'infermiera, si tratta di milioni e milioni in oro che vengono trafugati alla Francia. Il ladro gentiluomo, che non ha mai nascosto il suo patriottismo, interverrà in aiuto del suo paese. Il romanzo fu pubblicato in Italia diviso in due volumi: "Il triangolo d'oro" e "La vittoria di Arsenio Lupin".

Maurice Marie Émile Leblanc (1864 -1941) was a French novelist and writer of short stories. His famous character, Arsène Lupin, is a master of disguise, a historian, gentleman, and a burglar. In these adventures, Lupin organises a series of flamboyant heists under the nose of the determined Inspector Ganimard. He carries out the most amazing burglaries without ever leaving a clue. The innocent and poor have nothing to fear from him, but the rich and powerful, and the detective who tries to ruin the fun, are the targets of Arsene’s mischief.

Confessions of a Book Lover was first published in 1922, and even though it is nearly a century old, it is a delightful rummage through a lifetime of reading. We have abbreviated the original with those sections we found most engaging.
