I had been in Asia just over two months - something like 10 weeks, or if you’re counting days, about 70 days. Of course, if you’re counting meals, like I was, think about 210. Add iodine-purified water, a permanent layer of dust on my tongue, and let's just say I couldn't always hold down what I did eat. Food was becoming my meaning, my passion, my existence.

We traveled for six months through the warm heart of Africa. Backpacks, pick-up trucks, dusty roads, and more smiles than I knew existed. But for the first few months, I was pretty sure the entire continent was out to get me. Sure, there were swindlers and cheats, scam artists and robbers. But those you have everywhere. No, Malawi was truly the warm heart of Africa.

It was important to me because I needed my fix of travel, my escape from the fast-paced world of the everyday. It’s not Tahiti, or Thailand, or even Hawaii - it’s Interstate 5. It’s not far away, unique, or in the slightest bit exotic. That’s just it. The secret is that it doesn’t need to be. I wear an uncontrollable dopey smile for my small victories over the ordinary.

We make thousands of decisions every single day. What if had more control over them What if we could put them to better use? To strengthen our decision-making muscle, make bigger choices more easily, and, gulp, even have fun at it? Do you know that feeling? It's...The feeling when it clicks. There's a point in decision making, probably quite a bit like reaching the summit of a mountain on a bicycle, when you feel relief.

Have you ever noticed that, after listening to a podcast or an audiobook, you feel like you know the author? Our ears bring information into our brains in a different way then our eyes by reading the words - or even our eyes through watching a screen. This is what I’m after. This is the connection I love to have as a reader and this is what I strive for as an author. This is why I’ve built this course so you too can connect with your readers.

Did you see that? I didn't. But Charlie Holiday did. Are there more than five senses? What if there were, and the key to unlocking them was hidden in under-cooked scrambled eggs on a Thai night train? Very unlikely.

Magic only has to be right once. Or twice. One time might have been a coincidence. Lucky. But the second time was undeniable. Do you know every nook and cranny of your neighborhood? How about under your neighborhood? It began as a simple walk home, the same one we did every day after school. But our dog's ball went into something of a hole, or was it a cave? Maybe a tunnel. But are there tunnels in the city? The ball was pretty close to the entrance, but just far enough to be a little spooky. Should we just forget it?
