Two women and their children arrive in Clearmont in route to California. Mrs. Chambers is looking to reunite with her husband who has been off mining for gold, while Mrs. Larson is a recent widow whose husband died of a snake bite along the trail. The women are determined to press onward despite the onset of winter. So, Britt MacMasters, former US Marshal turned rancher, and his ranch-hand Rusty, offer to escort the party through hostile territory.

In the two part season finale, The Prisoner Transfer, Sheriff Dawes and his new deputy Cheyenne, take the killer Max Clegg over dangerous territory y to his hanging in Casper, and soon find themselves being pursued by the outlaws gang.

Colonial's long running western series opens with the three part episode, "The Cattle on a Thousand Hills". In part 1, Britt, Dawes, Doc, Matt and Brad begin the cattle drive from Oklahoma to Clearmont, with the rustlers waiting for the right time to strike.
