Rencontrant des difficultés financières, un jeune étudiant d'université se voit contraint de se loger au seul endroit où ses maigres moyens le lui permettent. Dans une partie étrange de la ville où il n'avait encore jamais été auparavant, il trouve un appartement dans un immeuble presque vide. L'un des rares locataires du lieu est Erich Zann, un vieil homme d'origine allemande, qui est muet et joue de la viole dans un orchestre local. Il vit à l'étage supérieur, et lorsqu'il est seul, la nuit, il joue d'étranges mélodies jamais entendues auparavant.

J'en suis d'autant plus convaincu que mes yeux se posent sur celui qui est assis là, ronronnant près du feu. Le chat est un animal mystérieux. Il devine et voit des choses que les humains ne perçoivent pas. N'est-il pas l'âme de l'antique Égypte et le sujet des contes oubliés de Meroe et Ophir ? De plus, il est apparenté au Seigneur de la Jungle, et comme tel, il est l'héritier des secrets de la sombre et inquiétante Afrique.

Nyarlathotep is the prose poem that marks the first appearance of "The Crawling Chaos", an Outer God in the Cthulu Mythos and one of Lovecraft’s most famous creations. Although best known for his short stories, H.P. Lovecraft considered himself a poet. These are five short poems by Lovecraft narrated by award-winning narrator and producer Mike Vendetti.

Two Tales From H. P. Lovecraft includes the American horror writer's short stories, "The Cats of Ulthar", of how a law forbidding the killing of cats came to be in a town called Ulthar, and "The Terrible Old Man", notable as the first story to make use of Lovecraft's fictional New England town of Kingsport.
