Holmes und Watson verbringen ein paar sonnige Tage in Palermo. Als der abgesetzte König Ludwig II. von Bayern unter mysteriösen Umständen ums Leben kommt, reisen Sherlock Holmes und Dr. Watson nach München. Sie sollen die Hintergründe des mutmaßlichen Selbstmordes des angeblich geisteskranken Monarchen untersuchen.

Beim Staatsbesuch eines indischen Maharadschas in London kommt es zu einem Zwischenfall: Der in einem Reisekäfig mitgebrachte Königstiger bricht aus und tötet einen Minister. Sherlock Holmes wird beauftragt, die Hintergründe zu untersuchen.

Während Holmes und Watson die Begebenheiten im Stephansdom untersuchen, wird einer der Verschwörer von der Polizei gefasst. Die Wiener Ermittler erpressen von ihm unter Gewaltmaßnahmen Informationen über die restliche Gruppe.

The Problem of Thor Bridge is a Sherlock Holmes murder mystery by Arthur Conan Doyle in The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes, first published in 1922 in The Strand Magazine. Neil Gibson, the Gold King and former Senator from "some Western state", approaches Holmes to investigate the murder of his wife Maria in order to clear his children's governess, Grace Dunbar, of the crime. It soon emerges that Mr. Gibson's marriage had been unhappy and he treated his wife very badly.
