Story
This is the best of Emerson's later works, qualifying his earlier popular essays, series one and two, with the heavier hand of experience. The Conduct of Life ostensibly is a set of essays about how to live life but also is an amalgam of what life taught Emerson. Ralph Waldo Emerson (May 25, 1803-April 27, 1882) was an American essayist, lecturer, and poet, who led the Transcendentalist movement of the mid-19th century.

Story
Published posthumously in 1919, this collection of diary entries presents a scathing picture of army life and is said to be one of the most vivid accounts of daily life in the trenches. It chronicles West's increasing disillusion with war and his move toward pacifist and atheist beliefs. The final part consists of his powerful war poems, including God, How I Hate You, You Young Cheerful Men, and Night Patrol. West was killed by a sniper in 1917. In view of some of his poems, one wonders if death was not unwelcome.

Story
Walter Besant was a novelist and historian, and his topographical and historical writings were probably best known through the detailed 10-volume Survey of London published after his death. This earlier single volume covers, in less depth, the whole period from prehistory until the 19th century. The book appears originally to have been written for boys, and, indeed, the chapters are called "Lessons". However, it is a very listenable history and provides a fascinating insight into both London's past and the government of the city at the time the book was written in 1894.

Story
When the Beatles first came to our attention in a big way in 1964, it was obvious they were a phenomena to reckon with. Geoffrey Giuliano sees fans in their 50s, 60s, 70s, and yes, even 80s, still clinging to the group so vehemently, he wonders in this unique audio rant if it’s really such a good idea. Giuliano himself spent a lot of time over the last 30 years thinking, writing, and talking about the Beatles - but it was done as a profession. These tens of thousands around the world have taken it up almost as a quasi-religion, or indeed, a kind of cult.

The 9/11 Commission Report is the official report of the events leading up to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Adherents of the 9/11 Truth movement, however, dispute the mainstream account of the September 11 attacks of 2001. Story
The Picture of Dorian Gray is a Gothic, philosophical novel by Oscar Wilde, first published complete in the July 1890 issue of Lippincott's Monthly Magazine. It offended the moral sensibilities of many British book reviewers, some of whom said that Wilde merited prosecution for violating the laws guarding public morality. In response, he aggressively defended his novel and art in correspondence with the British press. This was is the only novel written by Wilde.

Story
Frederick Douglass was an American social reformer, abolitionist, orator, writer, and statesman. After escaping from slavery in Maryland, he became a national leader of the abolitionist movement in Massachusetts and New York, gaining note for his oratory and incisive antislavery writings. Accordingly, he was described by abolitionists in his time as a living counter-example to slaveholders' arguments that slaves lacked the intellectual capacity to function as independent American citizens.
