Marjorie and Jim Harrison were born to missionary parents serving in Southwestern China in the 1930s. At that time, any children had to be sent to the China Inland Mission Boarding School in Northeast China, almost 3,000 miles away! By the end of Marjie's second-grade year, the war between China and Japan was escalating, and travel to and from their home was unsafe. On December 8, 1941, the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor, Japanese soldiers placed the school under house arrest, not allowing anyone to leave the school grounds.
