The Last Battle by CS Lewis concludes the Narnia series of novels. The story takes place 2,500 Narnian years since the creation of the world as related in The Magician's Nephew. The ape Shift sets up a false Aslan, starts to order his fellow Narnians around, and causes conflict between true and false Narnians, and between Narnia and Calormen, whose people worship the malevolent Tash.

For C. S. Lewis, reason and logic are the sensible way to approach faith and ethics. Much of the 20th century's ills are caused by ill-founded beliefs and opinions. Lewis' original approach remains as vital today as ever. He is able to take the most convoluted subject, turn it side on and shed bright illumination on it. To be able to see along things rather than at them - just like a beam of sunlight that invades the darkness of a toolshed - is, to Lewis, the way to understanding.

Clive Staples Lewis (November 29, 1898 - November 22, 1963), born in Belfast, Ireland, was a British writer, literary scholar, and Anglican lay theologian. He held academic positions in English literature at both Magdalen College, Oxford, and Magdalene College, Cambridge. Why do we read literature and how do we judge it? C. S. Lewis' classic An Experiment in Criticism springs from the conviction that literature exists for the joy of the reader and that books should be judged by the kind of reading they invite.
