Clockworks of War

In a country ruled by pettiness and greed, a Magician has no choice but to live in secrecy and constant fear of being slaughtered in the streets for daring to exist under the rule of an Oligarchy that has legalized the murder of anyone using magic. Kane Shepherd and his friends investigate a string of murders in the city of New Chicago only to find themselves swept up into an impossible conflict that will pit them and their magic against an enemy governed by pettiness, greed, and a lust for power that defies reason all while learning about the lies that come with being Magicians.

Magic can get a man killed in the streets of New Chicago. Kane Shepherd is a private investigator called in to quietly investigate a series of strange murders. He determines that it is the work of a Magician. A magician himself, Kane knows this case could turn nasty for him and his two fellow Magicians, Tabitha Drake and Alastair Jones. Kane soon finds that the situation is bigger than he thought when he’s swept into a boiling conflict filled with conspiracy, corruption, and bloodshed.

Out of the fire and into far worse. Kane and Tabitha barely escape New Chicago, retreating to the marshlands of the Confederate States of America. Along with the terse General Regina Anderson and her team of rebels, they arrive in Charleston, South Carolina, only to find a city in ruin, the settlers toiling away to organize a revolution against the Northern Oligarchy to save the torn country from war and greed.

Kane and Tabitha return to New Chicago and find fire and death. The Special Forces have put Hidden Valley under Martial Law. Anyone can now be accused of being a Magician…and killed on the spot. The revolution is dead. As the body count in the city ramps up, a new figure emerges from the shadows and begins a one-man siege on Hidden Valley with weapons never seen before. Kane and Tabitha stay on the run, but Gentry and the Gunman are always a step away. Will a new revolution form and stand against the Oligarchy and their private army?
