It’s 1959 and the city by the bay is on the verge of transformation. It’s the perfect spot for private investigator Kerrigan, a former boxer and World War II captain, to embrace his resourcefulness and hardened view of humanity. Kerrigan is very good at discreet investigations - selling his time, expertise, and silence. The maverick lives by one truth: War is cruel and disturbing, yet the civilian world is less honest.

When a self-made millionaire hires him to keep tabs on Stephanie Worland, his stunning, much younger wife, Kerrigan assumes it’s the age-old tale of suspicion, greed, and adultery. And her gold Mercedes is easy to track.

Until she ditches it for a waiting cab.

The now-curious assignment takes him from residential mansions to a cigar smoke-hazy cabaret downtown to the dodgier parts of the Wharf. Instead of the anticipated lover, Kerrigan finds only more questions.

Soon he’s being followed. His phone is tapped. And someone wants him dead.

To his surprise, an alarmed Stephanie arrives at his office door, hoping to hire him. A mystery man is following her. But who? Are random violent murders connected? And most importantly, in a city of liars, who - the paying client, the inscrutable femme fatale, the potentially corrupt authorities - can you trust?
