Heading over the Canadian Rockies, now that his work with Mac had ended, Tyrell takes the job offered by Ed McCoy, bounty hunter extraordinaire. Under the name of Travis Sweet, he takes the Bounty Hunter's oath and becomes a registered bounty hunter. Caught up in a half-cocked scheme to capture US ex-Ranger Matt Crawford, and share in the $10,000 reward, he coincidentally meets up with an old friend and convinces him to help.

Having adopted the alias Travis Sweet and acquiring employment as a bounty hunter, Tyrell's success in this role grows, as he and Buck Ainsworth successively apprehend Barclay Atalmore and his Rebel Rangers. Now on the hunt for Matt Crawford, a former U.S. Ranger and crack sniper who has gone rogue, killing his enemies from afar, he and Brady McCoy head west to the last known location of the man they hunt, in hopes of coming back alive....

US Ranger Matt Crawford is finally behind bars, and the 10,000-dollar reward was paid out to McCoy’s for his capture. The police commissioner declares Matt a provincial witness for McCoy’s. All legal proceedings against him have been stayed. The mounted police investigate the Vermillion incident and find Matt Crawford to be innocent of all killings in Canada, up to and including Hunter Talbot, and one U.S. Pinkerton, Thomas Lierpp, a.k.a. Miles Ranthorp. Freed and allowed to remain in Canada, Matt Crawford travels great distances to find work.

The setting for this story is the little town of Willow Gate in the interior of British Columbia in the early 1890s. Tyrell Sloan, under a contract held by McCoy's Private Investigations and Security, is acting undercover as a protector for the ruthless Gabe Roy, using his alias Travis Sweet, a reputed gunslinger who is noted for having outdrawn and killing Earl Brubaker.

With Lieutenant Bob Cannon, and Special Constable Rick Bash cleaning up the law in Willow Gate and Gabe Roy no longer a threat, Tyrell, Riley, and Colby leave behind the Brubakers and Pete Cross and head into uncharted Indian Territory in search of Ski-be-nan-ted a.k.a. the Apache Kid. They also take on a side job to track down escaped fugitives Barclay Atalmore and his Rebel Rangers.

Hired by a local cattle rancher to track down a cowhand accused of stealing a bank deposit, McCoy’s three best are straggled by two events that will change the course of one of their lives.
