While some humans were unaffected, others experienced a half-death of sorts, morphing into blood and flesh-crazed creatures with a desire to hunt the living. Climbing Fox Wattana of the Henomawi Nation claims responsibility for the black rain; he says it will will ensure the ultimate extinction of the United States government as revenge for robbing his people of their land. Cole "CB" Baxter isn't taking this lying down.

Climbing Fox Wattana of the Henomawi Nation claims responsibility for the black rain and its effects; he says it is his revenge against the United States government for robbing his people of their land, ensuring their ultimate extinction. Cole "CB" Baxter isn't taking this lying down. He, his sister, Lilly, and Dr. Georgina Lake will flee the airboat-tour business in the Florida Everglades and attempt to rescue what family they can.

The Baxter family once ran airboat tours in the Florida Everglades; life was simple and good. Everything changed with the black rain. It tainted the Earth, setting in motion a true zombie apocalypse. Most dogs died after the pitch fell from the sky. So did the alligators and crocodiles, but the ancient reptiles did not rest for long. Instead, they awoke hungry, falling in to feed beside the hordes of reanimated humanity.

Now safely gathered in Lebanon, Kansas, our survivors work with Micky Rode and the Nacogdoche Indian Tribe to train refugees of the apocalypse to become true warriors. To find Climbing Fox Wattana, they must cross a countryside teeming with flesh-craving skinwalkers. The skinwalkers have drawn together to form massive hordes - some wandering on their own; others amassed by Qaletaqa, an ancient Chief of the Hintoka Tribe who possesses near immortality. But he also hides a deeper secret of which few living humans are aware.
