Story
There is little more terrifying than those who hunt, stalk, and snatch their prey under the cloak of darkness. These hunters search not for animals, but for the touch, taste, and empowerment of human flesh. They are cannibals, vampires, and monsters, and they walk among us. These serial killers are not mythical beasts with horns and shaggy hair. They are people living among society, going about their day-to-day activities until nightfall. They are the Dennis Rader's, the fathers, husbands, church-going members of the community.

Story
In 1977, in an Ohio Amish community, pregnant wife and mother Ida Stutzman perished during a barn fire. The coroner’s report: natural causes. Ida’s husband, Eli, was never considered a suspect. But when he eventually rejected the faith and took his son, Danny, with him, murder followed. What really happened to Ida? The dubious circumstances of the tragic blaze were willfully ignored and Eli’s shifting narratives disregarded.

I start all of my true crime books with a quick word of warning. Most news articles and television true crime shows skim over the vile details of truly horrible crimes. In my books, I don’t gloss over the facts, regardless of how disgusting they may be. I try to give my listeners a clear and accurate description on just how demented the killers really were. I do my best not to leave anything out. The stories included in these books are not for the squeamish.

Story
In the very depths of the human soul there is a darkness. It is an entity which most of us may never get to know; for others, however, this darkness grows for years until it takes hold of them and permeates every inch of their body. This darkness is evil incarnate, and it is in the hearts and minds of some of the most dangerous and despicable human beings to have walked this same earth we live in today. In the following volumes, you shall discover the stories of six murderers so tainted by darkness that their horrific accounts still bring fear to men and women of our present day.

Eight true crime stories of murder and mayhem. In my first audiobook as a true crime author I've started with a few of the stories that have haunted me for some time. Some of these stories are unbelievable in their brutality while others are astounding in the stupidity of the killers. This collection of stories are from all around the globe and have no common thread between them other than that they are both thought provoking and disturbing. The stories included in this anthology are dark and creepy and will leave you with a new understanding of just how fragile the human mind can be.

Story
In 1857, a woman escaped enslavement on a North Carolina plantation and fled to a farm in New York. In hiding, she worked on a manuscript that would make her famous long after her death. The novel, The Bondwoman’s Narrative, was first published in 2002 to great acclaim, but the author’s identity remained unknown. Over a decade later, Professor Gregg Hecimovich unraveled the mystery of the author’s name and, in The Life and Times of Hannah Crafts, he finally tells her story.

In 1911 two British heiresses, Claire and Dora Williamson, read a brochure about a revolutionary fasting treatment that promised a lifetime of good health. The sanatorium in the village of Olalla, west of Seattle, was surrounded by a beautiful forest, sparkling waters and fresh air. The sisters agreed it sounded perfect and exactly the restorative holiday they needed. But within a month of arriving, under the supervision of Doctor Linda Burfield Hazzard, Claire and Dora began to realise the frightening truth – they were not patients but prisoners at the isolated sanitorium.

Story
If you’re familiar with the previous books in the True Crime Case Histories series, you already know that I start each book with a brief warning. Real true crime is not for everyone. The stories in this book represent humanity at its absolute worst. Pure evil. Television crime shows and news articles often skip the gruesome parts of true crime stories. The real details are just too grisly for the average viewer or reader.

Story
Fifty years ago, a serial killer prowled the quiet city of London, Ontario, marking it as his hunting grounds. As young women and boys were abducted, raped, and murdered, residents of the area held their loved ones closer and closer, terrified of the monster - or monsters - stalking the streets. Homicide detective Dennis Alsop began hunting the killer in the 1960s, and he didn’t stop searching until his death 40 years later.

Good, but…
Narrator is amazing with everything he does. Some stories were good, but others have the ‘mile wide/ inch deep’ feel to them. They are essentially equivalent to the trailer of a movie. Intriguing, but not complete. Still, the book was entertaining.

LOVE the narrator! The book?
I have listened to many Kevin Pierce audiobooks about true crime and always give him 5 stars. This book, although a nice long listen, left me feeling kind of bland. I think it’s because the stories are so compact with very little time to get involved with the people in them. You don’t get swept up in each story before it’s over and off to the next one. I felt confused at times as they seem to blend into each other. I love true crime and there is a lot in here but not as riveting as one full event and details that make you feel you could solve this crime.

Perfect for true crime lovers!
I'm a big fan of true crime so when I saw that I could get over 25 hours of it I was thrilled. Overall, I really enjoyed this anthology. There is a good selection of stories from the infamous to the somewhat obscure.
Kevin Pierce did a great job at narrating. His voice is perfect for true crime. I felt like I was listening to Unsolved Mysteries again.
However, it should be noted that the stories are written by various different authors and some of them are quite dated. There were several stories with problematic language. There is a lot of victim blaming and some offensive terminology. Such as referring to someone with intellectual disabilities using the "R" word. There are also quite a few stories that refer to sexual assault and rape as "sex." You do not kidnap someone, tie them up and have "sex" with them. You are raping them. I was particularly disgusted when one of the stores included "at some point he [a boy being raped by his uncle] began to enjoy the sex and eventually discovered he was a homosexual." No. Just no. I don't know who wrote that and I don't care what year it was when it was written, that is not okay!
Honestly, if I had to rate each story individually there are a few that I would give one star just based on the way its written alone. However, this is an anthology so I am giving my rating based on the content as a whole and overall I really liked the audiobook.

Great Book! highly recommend
I have two complaints though. The fact that the narrater doesnt say "chapter __" at the beginning of a new chapter. Sometimes i don't realize it's transitioned to a new book. I also can't find a list anywhere that tells me the names of each killer and which chapter.
Almost every case I like to google and some of the names are not easy to locate while trying to guess the spelling that I'm hearing.
Narrater has an awesome voice.
