Publisher's Summary

He was supposed to be a myth.

But from the moment I crossed the River Styx and fell under his dark spell...he was, quite simply, mine.

Society darling Persephone Dimitriou plans to flee the ultra-modern city of Olympus and start over far from the backstabbing politics of the Thirteen Houses. But all that's ripped away when her mother ambushes her with an engagement to Zeus, the dangerous power behind their glittering city's dark facade.

With no options left, Persephone flees to the forbidden undercity and makes a devil's bargain with a man she once believed a myth...a man who awakens her to a world she never knew existed.

Hades has spent his life in the shadows, and he has no intention of stepping into the light. But when he finds that Persephone can offer a little slice of the revenge he's spent years craving, it's all the excuse he needs to help her - for a price. Yet every breathless night spent tangled together has given Hades a taste for Persephone, and he'll go to war with Olympus itself to keep her close....

Spicy without flavour

You know when you order hot wings and you get the super hot flavour on the menu and it just burns in your mouth, but doesn’t deliver on flavour?

This book was like that.

There are plenty of scenes to keep you warm at night but it’s really lacking in the angst and chemistry that keeps the reader coming back for more. It’s almost pwp. There is no character development or world building.

There’s no fantasy in this Romantasy, It falls flat for me. Needs more ooomph.

A greek gods retelling with SPICE!

A grumpy sunshine with Hades and Persephone. The story was interesting and kept me interested in between the spicy scenes, which are a chefs kiss!

Spicy Fun

Actual rating 4.5! I had high expectations for this book, and I’m happy to say that it met and exceeded them. Knowing what I’d be getting into tempered expectations, so I was relieved to see actual plot and character development in addition to the spice.

On the eve of a dangerous and unwanted engagement, Persephone runs until she crosses paths with Hades, a broody and mythical saviour. They strike a bargain to get back at Zeus, the man who wronged them, only to find themselves undeniably attracted to each other.

I quite enjoyed Persephone and Hades. Despite their personality differences, they had a great chemistry. Persephone was refreshing and independent. I enjoyed her scenes immensely. Hades had good development and was very devoted to the well-being of his surprise guest.

While it goes without saying that the plethora of spicy scenes were SPICY, I appreciated the emphasis on consent. Hades was definitely a dom, but he put enormous care on Persephone’s sexual well-being, something that I feel is missing from some fantasy romances.

The setting and world-building were a little weak, since they were not the focus. While the mythology was bent to suit the story, it was never clear if these were deities, or just borrowing names and tropes. Those aspects could have been clearer, even if this is a modern retelling.

Still, I had a great time reading this. It was a fun, sexy, modern retelling with just enough stakes to move the plot along. If you want a steamy escape for the weekend, this is the book for you!

Raunchy with a quick storyline

Not a book for depth of characters or deep storyline but a 5/5 on the spicy scale. The female narrators is pretty decent but the male wasn’t my fav. Still listened to it and all the others. It’s a very modern take on the gods so if you are looking for mythical this is not the one.

Great Story, Alright Performance

Both performers were great in their respective se x's voice, but their opposites left some to be desired. Love Katee Robert's novels!

Good, not great

I didn't expect such a modern take when I read the resume, took me by surprised when I listened to this book. The story was simple, left me a bit unsatisfied. Good spice. I liked the female narrator's voice. I won't be listening to the following books of this series. I would have prefered a more mythical world.

Good but not great

This book had the potential to be so great if the narration was a bit better, spicy with no flavour.
It was a good story but could be better

a fun read

I don't usually like "Olympian god" books but this book only follows this theme lightly. I liked the main characters, but it's mainly just them so you don't get to know any other characters deeply. The first intimate scene leads you to believe this is a heavy bdsm book but it's really pretty vanilla after that. Pretty good frequent sex scenes with some cute moments in between. However towards the end it dragged a bit for me and the fight scene if you can call it that was aweful, there is really almost no action in this book and I found I missed it. Hades is a total marshmallow and I wanted him to have more of an edge. All in all a good read, will read future books in the series.

Narration

The narrator’s are so hard to listen to. The woman’s “male” voice sounds like she is trying out as the witch in Snow White.
