Anony Mom is a married 40-something mother of three and primary care doctor. She stumbles often in her parenting but is enthusiastically figuring it out as she goes. Growing up in a middle-class suburb and a product of divorce, her childhood was filled with tree climbing, soccer games, pink sprinkle donuts, repressing her feelings, and obsessive people-pleasing. She “found herself” in college and has prided herself on being a work in progress ever since. She journeyed miles of baby steps through medical school, residency, meeting her life partner, and starting her post-graduate career in medicine. Despite that great deal of personal growth during her twenties, becoming a mother hit her like a ton of bricks as she was inundated with evidence of inner work that still needed to be done. All of her faults were reflected back to her by the adorable little humans she had birthed. “The Mother Lode Journals” series dissects her thoughts about those faults, via letters to her daughters. It is her attempt at building a bridge from where she is now to where she would like to be, and reconciling her efforts in excruciating detail. Anony Mom has used journaling to express herself since her late teens and started journaling to her daughters when they were born. She decided to share them with the world in hopes that she might find other moms on a similar journey. She has chosen to publish anonymously to ensure online privacy for her kids and to avoid patients googling her name for reviews and stumbling upon these incredibly vulnerable stories. She currently identifies with being a recovering people pleaser, embracing imperfections, attempting gentle parenting, and wishing everything came more naturally and the world in general was a better place. She believes in strong female friendships, trying your best, humor as therapy, and that nature is sometimes the best medicine. She would love to engage with any readers book-club-style on Instagram (ReparentingMyselfBook).
