Cedric de Leon is Professor of Sociology and Labor Studies at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. His areas of expertise are labor, race, political sociology, comparative historical sociology, and social theory. He has published five books; his newest book, Freedom Train: Black Politics and the Story of Interracial Labor Solidarity, is forthcoming from University of California Press. Prior to becoming an academic, he was an organizer and elected leader in the U.S. labor movement.
