"When I’m not teaching literature or creative writing classes, cleaning house, walking my dogs, or hanging out with my family, I write novels." Cheri Pray Earl has taught creative writing and literature courses for the BYU Honors Program and English Department for more than 26 years. She was awarded BYU Honors Professor of the Year in 2005 which she brags about every chance she gets. But when she isn't teaching others how to write and read literature, she writes novels and lyric essays (short memoir-ish pieces). She is currently working on the middle-grade novel series, Just In Time (on Amazon) with Carol Lynch Williams. Cheri’s most recent children’s book, Mr. Dietsche, is a middle-grade novel based on her childhood in Dodge City, Kansas that her agent, Steve Fraser from JDLIT, is shopping around (that’s Secret Agent Steve). . . so stay tuned. On her own, Cheri writes young adult and adult novels and lyric essays (short memoir essays). Her secret love, though, is murder and mayhem stories, and she's trying something new and hard but loads of fun: she writes mystery novels out loud, so to speak, on her mystery blog and on her Patreon page (https://www.patreon.com/cheriprayearl). That means she writes and posts each segment of a story as she writes it, with little editing, AND she figures out the direction the stories will go at the same as her readers do. Scary hard work . . . but she loves it. If you'd like to follow along, you can read the first mystery novel--The Last Minute Boarder--in progress on dustingforfingerprints.wordpress.com and the second and latest mystery novel, Lavender, on her Patreon page (https://www.patreon.com/cheriprayearl). She's also writing away on an adult novel that Is. Not. About. Murder. And. Mayhem. The End. See more of Cheri's stories at dustingforfingerprints.wordpress.com and patreon.com/cheriprayearl. Watch for her upcoming memoir blog about living life amid hard things, A Settled Peace (asettledpeace.wordpress.com).
