Born in Stuttgart in 1973. Now washed up by life on the Baltic coast, Dietmar Smith lives near Rostock with his wife, two children, a dog, Bukowski the cat and Lamai the Siamese cat. I was fascinated by books from an early age. Far more than movies and television. I devoured everything I could get my hands on and the worst misfortune I could have imagined would have been losing my library card. Fortunately, that never happened, so I was able to grow up largely without such traumas. I started writing short stories quite early on. Neatly by hand, with the trusty Pelikan fountain pen. Ballpoint pens were frowned upon back then and computers were not in every household. To my disappointment, I was rarely allowed to use my father's typewriter. My early attempts at writing came to an abrupt end the day I finished a one hundred and twenty-page fan fiction (what we would probably call it today) about Star Wars and my mother threw it in the waste paper bin, telling me I'd better study for school. Over the next few decades, I limited myself to a few reports for online magazines and various specialist articles before publishing a collection of travel episodes (Tiramisu in Bangkok) and a few specialist books in 2017. My first erotic novel was published in 2018, followed by an erotic travel narrative and a volume of short stories. In 2022, I began a series of noir crime novels (Ed Stahl series). At the beginning of 2023, I turned my passion for writing to horror thrillers.
