Farhana Qazi is an American scholar, storyteller, and speaker. She writes in multiple genres and uses love, compassion, and empathy to understand women in conflict. She has traveled to over 200 cities and more than 70 countries to understand the roots of conflict. She began her career in The Counter-Terrorism Center in the U.S. government and served two U.S. Presidents. She received Presidential awards for her service and is the only Muslim woman in the government to offer understanding on Islam at a time of ignorance and misinformation (before and after the 9/11 attacks). Qazi is the only writer and public speaker to first shed light on female terrorists to the U.S. government and has since shared her research with the U.S. Department of State, the U.S, Army, the United Nations, and other institutions at home and abroad. After leaving government, she trained U.S. deployed Soldiers to help them understand the different cultures and religious practices in the Muslim world. She is a certified U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force instructor and continues to serve this community. For her service, she received the 21st Century Leader Award, presented by the National Committee on American Foreign Policy in New York; and the Distinguished Humanitarian Award for her work with women in war. Given her unique background and expertise, Qazi has been a guest in the mainstream media. She has appeared on CNN, BBC television and radio, Public Broadcasting Service, National Public Radio, Fox News, C-Span, Bloomberg, ABC News, MSNBC, Canadian national television, Voice of America, Al-Jazeera, and several podcasts. She is the author of Secrets of the Kashmir Valley, an International Book Award Finalist. This is an unforgettable, human-interest story focused on the people in this messy conflict and the never-ending protracted conflict between India and Pakistan. Qazi is best known for her award-winning and popular book, Invisible Martyrs, which received The Benjamin Franklin Book Award and a Finalist in Hollywood's Book Pipeline Award. With ground-breaking research and true stories, Qazi exposes female terrorists and their sympathizers and uses spiritual language and compassion to understand why some women and girls choose violence, while others do not. She is also a poet and artist. Qazi gives voice to women in conflict through poetic verse and celebrates female empowerment. Her poems focus on the central themes of love, empathy, and healing for women everywhere--women have a right to choose the life they deserve, free from cultural and political boundaries imposed on them.
