Hello readers! My name is Kaylee McGinnis, but you know that. I didn't used to always love reading and writing...in fact, I really sucked at it. I was in third grade but had to go to the second-grade classroom for reading time because I was a year behind. I was ashamed. I even skipped reading time more than once, hiding in the bathroom so I didn't have to go in. I eventually got caught and had to face my fears. It was a real eye-opener to me and I started working harder to be better at reading and writing. By 5th grade, I was submitting work that landed me a spot reading it at our school assemblies. I remember, prior to that day, watching other kids get awarded the privilege of reading their work in front of the whole school. I never thought it would be me. Eventually, it WAS me! I remember walking up to the microphone and holding my writing in my hand as hundreds of students looked at me. I remember feeling so alive as I read it to those around me. I became the words I was reading. This was what I was meant to do. Now, I'm twenty-four at the time that I write this in my living room as my children play on the floor and my husband is at work.
