Laurie Palmer is a Christ follower, wife, and mother. She has evolved into an "open-minded Christian" that is much less judgmental than her very conservative upbringing. She certainly still believes the Bible is the inerrant word of God but also believes much of her early teachings may have been born out of the opinions of well-meaning family members and church leaders, not the actual opinion of God. This evolution came during the fight of her life, the fight for her child. Laurie is no stranger to heartbreak, devastating fear, and hopelessness. In her first book, "The Joy Project and Grape Turtles: How I Found Peace While Loving an Addict," she describes what it was like to raise a child with self-destructive behaviors. Most importantly, she also describes how she was able to overcome the horrific devastation of only being able to stand by and watch as the one she had been responsible for and desperately loved since his birth, choose a life that she would not have chosen for her worst enemy. Today, Laurie works as a Dental Hygienist west of Atlanta. She feels a strong calling to help people navigate the horrors and trials of loving an addict. She formed a group called "Loving an Addict" with the support of her church. Laurie's latest work is a book about how to start a “Loving an Addict” group. When loving an addict, one of satan’s greatest tools is the feeling of isolation. This group shares principles that heal and empower.
