To get a better insight into who I am, please check out my blog. I was born on October 28th, 1950. My father was a country preacher and we lived in a dairy-farm community in Wisconsin. I was raised in a nurturing home with loving parents and two adorable older sisters. When I was six years old the family moved to France when my father joined the United States Army as a chaplain. During this time, we traveled throughout many parts of Europe. My parents enjoyed museums, and I was able to experience the highest expressions of religious and secular art, as well as the customs of many different cultures. To go from the cow barns of Wisconsin to the gold and marble of the Vatican, and to see Michelangelo's sculpture of Moses, was a mind-opening experience for a boy. I still have photographic memories of the veins on the marble arms of Moses. Since then I have lived in many parts of the United States. I first attended college at Clemson University, South Carolina from 1969 to 1971. My studies made their progression from engineering, to architecture and then finally to art studio, always following the trail that led to greater and greater freedom. At Clemson I also took classes in literature and writing. In 1971 I was drafted in to the United States Army. I was fortunate to be given the position of illustrator on the General's Staff at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Right before my discharge in 1973 I met and began my apprenticeship under the nationally known artist Richard Goetz. I helped in running his summer workshop in Santa Fe, New Mexico that year. In the early 1980's I continued my education at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and throughout the rest of the '80's at Chico State University, Chico, California. Through the years I kept writing stories and poetry (most things shelved or discarded) as I pursued my painting. I also kept studying and reading about the art of writing. In 1997 I returned to the beautiful skies and landscapes of New Mexico. From 2002 to August of 2014, I was a security officer up at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. It was a great job that allowed time to observe in detail aspects of perception and states of awareness. It is through the many hours of focused attention, often under the conditions of isolation, that some of my greatest insights and experiences have come. They have influenced my writing and painting to such a profound degree. It was there that I developed my ideas for my first website, perception4u.com. followed by the book "Tobe and the River Is." I am now retired. I enjoy going on painting/camping trips. I have painted many parts of the Southwest and look forward to doing more of that. I am working on ideas for my next book. It's not so much "working" as it is just being open for inspiration to come. I hope you enjoy reading the book, as much as I enjoyed writing it. It was a wonderful experience. Micah
