A Michigan native who now calls Illinois home, Pete Spitler has been in the journalism industry since 1995 and is now the editor of a weekly Southern Illinois newspaper. Pete’s career has spanned everything from Whiffle ball to first-degree murder trials. Among his unique and varied assignments, he has trained as a professional wrestler; served as a paranormal investigator and camped out with Civil War reenactors, all in pursuit of telling the best and most accurate story. He has won acclaim in several categories for his writing, including best breaking news story, best sports story, best column/editorial and a first place award by the Illinois AP Editors Association in sports news. Pete holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Southern Illinois University - Carbondale with a minor in history.
