Hello, I have been informed that a blog has nothing to do with wooden shoes, nor a banana looking boat with a giant q-tip, so... I’m thinking maybe I can do this without causing a international incident. But just in case, my Mom is standing by with a fire extinguisher and a fly swatter... don’t ask, it’s safer that way. Anyhow, I’m Youlanda, writer of the script RED. Only I didn’t get credit for it because my Mom refused to allow her belly (my first studio) to be scanned so that my earliest work could be copyrighted. Therefore, Cully Hammer got all the credit. But that’s okay because I have others... boy do I have others. Anyhow, here is my UNOFFICIAL-OFFICIAL bio... and by the way, welcome to the HOUSE of NUTS, Usually funny and nutty, always healthy. AUTHOR’S BIO YOULANDA has been a writer for over 17 years. Though she has had a measure of success in the field of poetry, having been published in 6 collections overseas, her heart has always been in storytelling. As an avid reader and movie watcher, her complaints of lack of quality story lines prompted her to try her hand at writing and thus forged her motto “If you’re not willing to work to change a thing, you have no right to complain about that thing.” She began writing in the womb, to the horror of her landlord. She was constantly hearing, “Leave my walls alone!” and “Wash your hands!” It was such a delight the day she followed the path to the light... having ran out of wall space anyhow. Her mother claims she would write on anything, even toilet paper. False, it’s too soft and you can only use a felt tip which smears. Then again, SCOTT’S is pretty sturdy. Thus began her journey into scriptwriting and moviemaking. Landa has no formal training in writing (let us forget the Hollywood Screenwriting course) though she obtained training in NY (Traphagen School of Fashion) and CA (FIDM) for Fashion Designing. After completing two years of college at FSU located in Fayetteville, NC, she was informed that they did not carry her major Motion Picture Production for which she had signed up. It was at this point that she determined to prove the guidance staff wrong when they proclaimed, “You can’t make movies in Fayetteville.” Having met Demond Wilson and Frank Capra Jr.and receiving a verbal commitments for their assisting her in the production of her project MIRACLES, Landa prepared for the filming of her first feature. Though Mr. Wilson did not follow up on his promise once leaving and Mr. Capra Jr. decided to pursue Jamie Lee Curtis sci fi adventure VIRUS, Landa purposed to see the project through. For 21 days, Landa attended school full time during the day and shot footage at night, vastly increasing the sales of Excedrins in her area. At the end of this time, she found herself with 8 videos of footage and an editor who had found a paying job. Thus in one day she found herself having to learn the fine art of editing the same way she had learned to operate the cameras and lighting… guerilla style OJT. On the 26th day from the start of the project, Landa found herself with a full-length film complete with an original score. Though MIRACLES went over budget by $17.00 (the budget being $100.00) she was able to show the naysayers you could indeed make a feature film in Fayetteville, NC… and she had the Excedrin receipts to prove it. Having lived in numerous places, Landa found inspiration for an array of projects. She spent 2 years working and researching family histories in Germany, which resulted in ALL GODS’ CHILDREN/ THE SUN SHINES BRIGHTEST AT MIDNIGHT, the story of a multi-cultural, multi-racial family, which spans 250 years and 3 continents. Years in New York resulted in FAMILY AFFAIR and THE BAGS’… A LADY, two tales, which deal with homelessness. A year in MS fostered NAPPY & ME along with BEAST OF BURDEN. A year in OK brought forth MOMMIE’S HEART as well as a children book THE BRICK AND THE DREAM and an original fairy tale FURRIE TAILS. Years in NC have fostered numerous works to include a thriller LEAD US NOT and a pilot script JEWELS: SOFTKILL (a Cat-people meets Highlander). Also the short story collection IN SEARCH OF UNICORNS: MODERN FAIRY TALES FOR MODERN WOMEN. Vol. 1 of 3 planned. There is also a play THEY SHOOT PRETTY WOMEN… DON’T THEY? that garnered 59 out of a possible 60 points at the 1993 Young Georgian Playwright Competition and the musical SOMEBODY’S PRAYING FOR YOU. And let us not forget the original Superhero series THE PHOENIX. And the writer writes on....
