The Rev. Dr. Zeb Bradford Long

I was born in 1951 in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA to Rufus and Peggy Long the oldest of six children.
I was nurtured early in the faith, in Sunday School at First Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC. Happy summers were spent in the family home in Montreat, NC which was, the missionary equipping and sending center for the Presbyterian Church in the United States.
It was in Montreat that the first sparks of global vision were struck through attendance at the Presbyterian Mission Conferences and association with many missionaries and their children especially from Korea, Brazil and Africa.
In 1966, I moved to Korea. My father took a key position in the United States government with the Agency for International Development. Arriving in Korea was a life-altering experience for me. My family lived on the Young Son Military Base in Seoul and I graduated from the Seoul American High School in 1970.
In the summer of 1970, I left Korea to return to the United States to attend Davidson College in NC.
The trip home was turned into a four-month journey and great adventure through Borneo, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Burma, across India and then to Europe. What started as a travel adventure became a profound crisis of faith. I saw people starving to death on the streets of Calcutta and the devastation of war in South East Asia. This encounter with evil caused me to reject the church and question the existence of God. My comfortable view of the world as a safe and good place was shattered.
Davidson College was a very good experience for me. I graduated in 1974 with a BA in Psychology and was a North Carolina Fellow. In the summer of 1971, I had a major conversion experience in which I was encountered by Jesus Christ. Then in the summer of 1973 while in India working in medicine, Jesus encountered me again and called me into the ministry.
After graduation from Davidson College and before going to the Union Theology Seminary in Richmond, Virginia, I spent four months living in Vietnam with my father who was working there with USAID. I worked as a photographer for the Holt Adoption Agency. I traveled to many locations in Vietnam to photograph the effects of the war on its most innocent victims - the children. In Vietnam I saw clearly that Jesus Christ was the only way to peace and justice in a fallen world.
I started Union Seminary in the Fall of 1974, and met and married my fellow classmate, Laura Cole. We now have three children, Elizabeth, Rebecca, and Stephen.
brad-taiwanIn 1976-1977 Laura and I spent a year in Korea as part of my Doctor of Ministry requirements. Laura taught English and I taught Reformed Theology at the Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Seoul.
The most significant thing that happened to Laura and to me was spending our holidays at Jesus Abbey, an Anglican prayer center. This was a transforming time for both of us. I was baptized with the Holy Spirit and given a clear calling for future ministry.
I graduated from Union Seminary in 1978. I received a Doctor of Ministry degree in Theology. I was then called to pastor a small country church in North Carolina, starting in the fall of 1978 and was ordained to the Gospel ministry by the Presbyterian Church in the United States.
In 1980 Laurs and I were sent to Taiwan, as Presbyterian missionaries. After two years of language school learning Mandarin Chinese, we were assigned to the Presbyterian Bible College in Hsinchu. I worked in various positions at the college, first as Academic Dean and then was promoted to Vice President. I taught classes on Reformed Theology and the Bible in Chinese.
In 1984 I founded the Presbyterian Lay Training Center on the campus of the Bible College. This became an equipping center for lay people throughout Taiwan with hundreds of people attending our events.
In August of 1989 I left Taiwan to return to the United States to become the Executive Director of Presbyterian-Reformed Ministries International - a Presbyterian-based group associated with the worldwide movement of the Holy Spirit since 1966.
From January 1990 until the present, I have been the Executive Director of this ministry. I have been called around the world to share in the work of the Gospel. In 1991 I started the Dunamis Project - a series of six intensive equipping events that focus on helping men and women to cooperate with the Holy Spirit in ministry. We have been invited to offer this teaching in Canada, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Brazil, Uganda, Taiwan, Korea, and most recently to China.
In 2003 in order to support this worldwide movement of the Holy Spirit I worked through PRMI to establish the Community of the Cross: A Place of Encounter with Jesus Christ. This is located on 24 acres in Black Mountain, North Carolina in the Blue Ridge Mountains. It is a center for prayer, equipping and sending.
I am passionately committed to Jesus Christ and to seeing His Kingdom transforming all dimensions of reality.
