Mark Caney, a Vice-President of dive training agency PADI International, wrote Dolphin Way in a bid to preserve dolphins and their natural habitats. He is a member of the board on marine charity Project Aware and a marine mammal medic. He came up with the concept of Dolphin Way in 2005, but it was finally printed in July 2011. Mark spent six years with the British military, then went on to establish a dive center in Cyprus and lead one of the largest coastal diving expeditions of its kind to explore the unchartered regions of the East African coast. But he became one of the world's most influential - and well-known - divers after landing the role of Vice President of PADI Europe Middle East and Africa (EMEA) in 1996. He went on to develop many of the agency's technical diving courses, and is now the Vice President of the PADI Technical Diving Division. In addition to diving, Mark is a keen sailor and a sailing instructor and has often managed to combine the two activities. Dolphin Way: Rise of the Guardians, his first novel, follows the story of Sky, a male dolphin who unwittingly finds himself caught up in a violent battle for love, life and values. In order to save the lives of his closest friends, Sky must decide between the two female dolphins who challenge everything he believes in. The Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society said it sends a "powerful environmental message", while Sport Diver Magazine said it "masterfully weaves a believable tale of dolphin life".
