When Emily Lane isn’t busy running her charming Christmas-themed store, “Under the Mistletoe”, located in the quaint tourist town of Fletcher’s Grove, she finds herself compelled to investigate not so quaint local murders. On the surface, Emily is a perfectly lovely, good-natured puzzle-solver and mystery lover. But she is hiding a secret past from everyone in town. And when Emily begins her personal investigations, Detective-Constable Sam Wilner, a smart and attractive cop—with a crush on Emily that is not completely unrequited—begins to wonder if there’s more to Emily than meets the eye.

Great Holiday Cozy Mystery!
Évalué le: 2023-12-07
This second installment in the series did not disappoint! This was a bit different than the first in that there were three distinct stories/mysteries, whereas in the previous audiobook, one mystery was the focus for the entire book. I liked the change and enjoyed all of the intrigue. And that ending, talk about a cliffhanger! I suspect Audible will wait until around this time next year to release v3 but I really wish it would be sooner!

Histoire
When a banished witch falls in love with the legendary trickster Loki, she risks the wrath of the gods in this moving, subversive debut novel that reimagines Norse mythology. Angrboda’s story begins where most witches' tales end: with a burning. A punishment from Odin for refusing to provide him with knowledge of the future, the fire leaves Angrboda injured and powerless, and she flees into the farthest reaches of a remote forest. There she is found by a man who reveals himself to be Loki, and her initial distrust of him transforms into a deep and abiding love.

Holy cow this was one great book!
Évalué le: 2023-10-18
Jane Entwistle’s narration was spot on and added much enjoyment to my reading. The story itself was captivating. Nearing the end of it, it almost felt like a history lesson of sorts, a history of Norse mythology. There was just so much detail that the author covered. Really well done and I highly recommend the audiobook.

So much fun!
Évalué le: 2023-01-15
Given the fact that murder was involved, I probably shouldn’t use “fun” as a descriptor. But this cozy mystery series WAS fun! The actors were great and the production was equally impressive. Please Audible, don’t make us wait until Christmas for the next in the series! I could listen to this at any time of year.

Fantastic!

I could listen to David Attenborough read my grocery list and be riveted! He is that good. His superior narration skills add depth to this compendium of the history of life on earth. I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook and know that I will listen to it again. It is chock-a-block with interesting information, so much so that I found myself re-listening to various chapters. Well worth a read, or maybe several!

Histoire
Finnmark, Norway, 1617. Twenty-year-old Maren Magnusdatter stands on the craggy coast, watching the sea break into a sudden and reckless storm. Forty fishermen, including her brother and father, are drowned and left broken on the rocks below. With the menfolk wiped out, the women of the tiny Arctic town of Vardø must fend for themselves. Three years later, a stranger arrives on their shore. Absalom Cornet comes from Scotland, where he burned witches in the northern isles. He brings with him his young Norwegian wife, Ursa.

Thought provoking
Évalué le: 2022-02-19
This was an excellent book! It was dark and foreboding, but how could it not be given the subject matter. I'm always surprised with how cruel humanity can be when people don't understand something. Fear is a great motivator, unfortunately. This story kept me thinking. Even when I wasn't reading it, my mind would wander back to it. I feel sure that I'll read this again someday. The narrator, Jessie Buckley, did a wonderful job evoking a tense atmosphere and bringing the characters to life.

A Reminder...
Évalué le: 2020-08-24
For me, this pandemic period has been one of introspection, self-discovery and personal growth. So, perhaps it’s not a coincidence that I recently started listening to this audiobook. It’s been on my TBR for a long time. As it turns out, reading this book now has been quite timely and perhaps that accounts for my complete enjoyment of the story. It was a bit preachy and repetitive, as other reviewers have mentioned. It also invokes the idea of a higher power which is not palatable for everyone. But, while I don’t consider myself at all religious, I do appreciate the spiritual side of things. This simple story reminded me of the importance of following your dreams/your heart and to never give up on them. It’s a short book and one worth reading, at least once in a lifetime. Also, Jeremy Irons is an excellent narrator!
