Histoire
Texas, 1921. A time of abundance. The Great War is over, the bounty of the land is plentiful, and America is on the brink of a new and optimistic era. But for Elsa Wolcott, deemed too old to marry in a time when marriage is a woman’s only option, the future seems bleak. Until the night she meets Rafe Martinelli. By 1934, the world has changed; millions are out of work and drought has devastated the Great Plains. Elsa must make an agonizing choice: fight for the land she loves or leave it behind and go west, to California, in search of a better life for her family.

A wonderful read
Évalué le: 2024-02-24
Just wonderful. This is my third book by Christine Hannah and I like this one better than the Nightingale. Way better! Of course, I cannot compare it to The Great Alone, which will always stay my favourite.
Things I like about The Four Winds:
- It picks up speed from chapter 1
- Elsa and Loretta's character and how they beautifully develop through the story. While they keep their basic characteristics intact, how they transform by the time the story ends. Interestingly, the change happens so smoothly that we don't realise, however, when they are changed, you can look for the seeds of those changes back in the story.
- The interview with the author at the end and the revelations she makes.
- Loved Julia's voice

Histoire
Lily and her ex-husband, Ryle, have just settled into a civil coparenting rhythm when she suddenly bumps into her first love, Atlas, again. After nearly two years separated, she is elated that for once, time is on their side, and she immediately says yes when Atlas asks her on a date. But her excitement is quickly hampered by the knowledge that, though they are no longer married, Ryle is still very much a part of her life—and Atlas Corrigan is the one man he will hate being in his ex-wife and daughter’s life.

Found it better than "It Ends with Us". Probably because u know Lily better by now or because you want to see more of Atlas. Also, because you appreciate him more after knowing Ryle. All in all, couldn't keep it away and stayed hooked to it till the finish.

Histoire
Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town where she grew up—she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. And when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life seems too good to be true.

Loved it. Hooks you, makes you feel love, hatred, anxiety, fear, makes you cry. Loves the fact that it's not only for entertainment but has an important message to give.

Interesting story and nice narration

Loved the book. It's not one of the books that would pull you back with a great force when you are not listening to it. I mean, there is largely no suspense that will pull you to the book through your breaks but the story is very interesting, different and keeps you hooked while you are on it. Evelyn's character comes out so beautifully through the story that you can actually visualise her and believe that she exists in reality. Loved her character and her voice. Narrators have done a good work too, especially the news reader.

Histoire
The most popular and beloved American historical novel ever written, Margaret Mitchell's Gone with the Wind is unparalleled in its portrayal of men and women at once larger than life but as real as ourselves. Now best-selling writer Alexandra Ripley brings us back to Tara and reintroduces us to the characters we remember so well: Rhett, Ashley, Mammy, Suellen, Aunt Pittypat, and, of course, Scarlett.

Filled the void created by Gone With the Wind

Did its job well- Filled the void which is why I started it but didn't offer enough of Rhett Butler. I think it didn't even mean to which is why it was named Scarlett. The end is abrupt...could have been elaborated a bit more.
