Histoire
The hardscrabble folks of Troublesome Creek have to scrap for everything - everything except books, that is. Thanks to Roosevelt's Kentucky Pack Horse Library Project, Troublesome's got its very own traveling librarian, Cussy Mary Carter. Cussy's not only a book woman, however, she's also the last of her kind, her skin a shade of blue unlike most anyone else. Not everyone is keen on Cussy's family or the Library Project, and a Blue is often blamed for any whiff of trouble.

Excellent Historical Novel
Évalué le: 2021-01-29
The writing is excellent, the characters are well-developed. The description of the Appalachian area of Kentucky brought alive the harshness of the terrain, the mountains and the deep connection people had to their part of the world . As a historical novel I learned about the blue people of Kentucky and I took the time to read more about this genetic condition. The Pack Horse Library Project highlighted the desire and thirst people had to read and learn about the outside world. I was moved by the drama of arranged marriages, starving children, bigotry and discrimination. Keep your Kleenex box close.

Histoire
In her memoir, a work of deep reflection and mesmerizing storytelling, Michelle Obama invites listeners into her world, chronicling the experiences that have shaped her - from her childhood on the South Side of Chicago to her years as an executive balancing the demands of motherhood and work to her time spent at the world's most famous address. With unerring honesty and lively wit, she describes her triumphs and her disappointments, both public and private, telling her full story as she has lived it - in her own words and on her own terms.

Interesting!
Évalué le: 2020-05-18
I enjoyed listening to Ms. Obama reading her autobiography. It was interesting to hear her take on finding herself, for example, at Princeton as a minority, her reaction, her attitude, the attitude of others. She managed, with the exception of the epilogue, to leave Politics with a capital P out of her impressions of life as the First Lady. I liked her take on raising children in the White House, her admitted failures, her reasoning as to why she did not go see her good friend who was dying,
I have read some comments about this book that find she describes her husband as a perfect person, a perfect President, but this book is not about politics, it is about life in the White House. President Obama did have several failures and erred a couple of times (my opinion as a Canadian) but the book is not a description of his presidency and policies.

Histoire
Though her mind is still sharp, Elizabeth's eyes have failed. No longer able to linger over her beloved books or gaze at the paintings that move her spirit, she fills the void with music and memories of her family, especially her beloved twin sister, Emily. When her late father's journals are discovered after an accident, the past suddenly becomes all too present.

Beautiful story, full of dram and mystery
Évalué le: 2020-01-21
Listened on audio for my Bookclub. This is a wonderful story, beautifully written, well developed characters, lots of drama and mystery. Ms. Pendziwol is very good at describing scenes and the landscape. I felt as if I was with them on the island. Listening to the story I was sometimes sitting on the edge of my seat! Listening while I was on the stationary bike in the gym, I often found myself going faster when there was drama. I cried Emily was raped, when Morgan played her violon standing on the picnic table in the snow.
This is my first audio book and I loved listening to it.
