À propos de cet audio
With the haunting atmosphere and emotional power of The Language of Flowers, Orphan Train, and The Light Between Oceans, critically acclaimed children's author Jean E. Pendziwol's adult debut is an affecting story of family, identity, and art that involves a decades-old mystery.
Though her mind is still sharp, Elizabeth's eyes have failed. No longer able to linger over her beloved books or gaze at the paintings that move her spirit, she fills the void with music and memories of her family, especially her beloved twin sister, Emily. When her late father's journals are discovered after an accident, the past suddenly becomes all too present.
With the help of Morgan, a delinquent teenager performing community service at her senior home, Elizabeth goes through the diaries, a journey through time that brings the two women closer together. Entry by entry, these unlikely friends are drawn deep into a world far removed from their own, to Porphyry Island on Lake Superior, where Elizabeth's father manned the lighthouse and raised his young family 70 years before.
As the words on these musty pages come alive, Elizabeth and Morgan begin to realize that their fates are connected to the isolated island in ways they never dreamed. While the discovery of Morgan's connection sheds light onto her own family mysteries, the faded pages of the journals will shake the foundation of everything Elizabeth thinks she knows and bring the secrets of the past into the light.

Beautiful story, full of dram and mystery
Listened on audio for my Bookclub. This is a wonderful story, beautifully written, well developed characters, lots of drama and mystery. Ms. Pendziwol is very good at describing scenes and the landscape. I felt as if I was with them on the island. Listening to the story I was sometimes sitting on the edge of my seat! Listening while I was on the stationary bike in the gym, I often found myself going faster when there was drama. I cried Emily was raped, when Morgan played her violon standing on the picnic table in the snow.
This is my first audio book and I loved listening to it.

What a great story
The author captured my imagination right from the beginning painting a hauntingly lovely story of a family's hardships on a lighthouse island.
The narration was excellently done. The twist at the end was quite intriguing and I would definitely read another novel by this author.

A beautiful tribute to the lives of the lighthouse keeper
Poetic and haunting. Beautifully written and performed.
A bit slow going to start but the ending made it all worthwhile.

Loved this book!
If you are Canadian and enraptured with the stories of lighthouses and our beautiful, wild, unpredictable Lake Superior, if you are enthralled by stories of generations of families with a twist or two or three - you will not be able to stop listening to this novel. My husband must've felt abandoned as I squirrelled myself away to binge listen to this book.
I am sad that it has ended. I loved the characters and how the author developed them, almost immediately. I won't write anything else. You have to absorb this story for yourself. You will not be wasting an Audible credit on this one!

Loved the Canadian aspect.
I enjoyed the story even though I found it dragged on at times. the ending was quite unexpected. I thought I had it figured out but there was even more of a twist than I thought. I loved the twists at the end even though I found it very very confusing. I still have not figured out how Morgan fits into the story.

Wonderful Story
I am a lifetime resident of Thunder Bay. This is my second time enjoying this novel, since it’s been chosen for my book club. The story is beautifully written, locally accurate and haunting. I enjoyed listening to it even more than I loved reading the paper copy. A must read for any reader from Thunder Bay, and beyond.

#1 for story and performance
Loved this mystery! Jean Pendziwol kept the reader on the edge of their seat with the storyline set on Porphry Island on Lake Superior and the voices of Dara Rosenberg, DAwn Harvey and Tom Parks made the novel an exciting listen. It was the reason I was sold on Audible.ca. #Audible1.
