Histoire
Alex Hawk spent a decade trying to return from Kragdon-ah. Now he is safely back in the 21st century with daughters Amy and Sanda and his loyal, giant dog. All is peaceful and good, until 10 years later, Alex hears an incredible commotion in the basement where the door into time still stands safely behind a brick wall. The wall has fallen. A giant warrior has stepped through and uttered four words in a language Alex has almost forgotten: "Manta-ak! We need you!"

ITS A DOOR!!!
Évalué le: 2024-08-20
You spent 10 years in Kragdon-Ah learning the language making friends etc etc. Finally you are able to get back home because the door is reactivated and you get those 10 years erased. All is great. So you go about your life all the while the DOOR is still active in your basement BUT you don't go back at all to visit friends. Spend the weekend. Take your daughters to the village. EVER.. Come on.. ITS A DOOR!!! Then when you DO go back in no one seems to care about anyone you left behind. Your daughters apparently have absolutely no friends in the 21st century who might even care a bit.. There are no family members that might be worried. No one to call the police who would check the house and find a door and then walk through. Soo if you push ALLLLL that aside it's a good story and keeps you entertained.

Histoire
The wall just didn’t look right. Alex has been trying to cope. Life after his deployment had been rough. His ex-wife thought he needed to stop disappointing their daughter. She was right. He would try harder. With six hours before his little girl’s fourth birthday party, he saw the anomaly. One wall was too short. Plenty of time to tear out a panel and look behind it. He found a brick wall. His house wasn’t made of brick. Behind that was another just like the first. He still had time. When the second wall came down, Alex stood and stared at the shining doorway.

Dumbest smart guy on the planet
Évalué le: 2024-08-20
This book draws you in. It's a good series and keeps you guessing. Alex Hawk has to be the dumbest smart guy on the planet making bad decision after bad decision but those bad decisions lead to some adventure which is fun. Don't over think this book . It's kind of like an old western movie. You don't watch it for the accurate depiction of the old west. You watch it for the shootouts at high noon. THIS is the "A Door into time series" in a nutshell.

Histoire
The Yellowstone super-eruption has put an end to modern civilization. As cities and countries continue to fall, the colony of Rivendell in the alternate Earth known as Outland looks more and more like the only real hope for humanity. But life in Rivendell isn’t getting any simpler, either. Bill and Kevin continue to discover new worlds; the population continues to rise; winter is approaching; and everyone has their own opinion about how things should be run.

I wanted to like this.

I was soooo looking forward to this book and purchased it as soon as it came available. It unfortunately got lost in all the politics and what seemed like re hashing the same problems. I am a huge fan of Dennis E Taylor and his books but this was a "just an OK' experience for me at best. We have a portal to multiple different earths but instead of exploring we spend time on politics and in fighting. If wanted that I would just watch the news. Ray Porter is, as always, an amazing narrator but when this book ended it didn't leave me wanting or wishing for the next book to come out in this series.

Histoire
More than two centuries after World War III poisoned the planet, the final bastion of humanity lives on massive airships circling the globe in search of a habitable area to call home. Aging and outdated, most of the ships plummeted back to Earth long ago. The only thing keeping the two surviving lifeboats in the sky are Hell Divers - men and women who risk their lives by skydiving to the surface to scavenge for parts the ships desperately need.

Started slow
Évalué le: 2021-03-01
I have to admit I got this book just because of the ratings and the fact it was read by R.C. Bray. After the first hour I was ready to stop listening. I found it boring and I couldn't get into it. But luckily I had a long drive and it slowly started to grow on me. You have to overlook the fact that everyone on the planet is in airships because the ground is too radioactive but 15,000 ft up shields everyone except the "lower deckers" from the radiation. There are some things like that you just have to accept "its a story" and go with it.

The battle-scarred star carrier Flying Dutchman is finally on her way back to Earth, after an exceptionally successful series of missions that have once again saved the world. The ship needs a serious refit, and her exhausted crew just wants a break from constant clandestine warfare against a vicious and superior enemy. Wishes come true, right? Not for the Merry Band of Pirates.

Made it this far
Évalué le: 2019-08-15
This is a great story. Craig Alanson has got some great ideas. If I had to complain about his writing style especially in this book is sometimes he seems to go off on a tangent when describing how the character feels about something which takes a long time and doesn't add to the story. Like when you are waiting at a Dr.s office and its full and you don't feel well and everyone else seems to be getting called and you don't get called which makes you so mad that you want to scream but you can't because your sick and you just sit there waiting.. etc etc. like that. nothing to do with the story but .... other than a few occasions like that Skippy is awesomeness. I am joining the cult (um club). yay skippy.

Histoire
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Skippy... enough said..
Évalué le: 2019-08-11
I have to say when I first started listing to this book I was sceptical. I didn't much care for R.C Brays voice and the story started off a little boring. I was wondering why the reviews were so high. Without giving away too much of the story Skippy comes in and totally saves the day. I couldn't stop. I currently am in book 7 of the series.
