Histoire
Billie Rush can't stop writing pop songs. The kind of songs that her rock band, The Shrikes, would never play. Billie's new songs and sound need an outlet, but she's not just going to give them away to anyone. Vero De Luca is always in the limelight for making mistakes. Though she knows she's fully capable of writing her own songs, the label insists that her first single needs a major name behind it. Both women think that working together sounds like a match made in hell. Though they can hardly stand each other, sparks start to fly when they're writing the new single, "Undone".

Great potential but needs an editor
Évalué le: 2023-12-11
The book has such great potential but I had to DNF it because the inconsistencies kept pulling me out of the story. Being surprised by who Vero was dating after being told by Lucas, kicking shut doors that had just been closed to name a couple of examples.
If my memory and brain fog weren't so terrible I might have been able to disregard them but as it is I was left confused and struggled to get back into the flow.
It felt like a bunch of scenes written out of order had been roughly pasted together.
Even still, the book shows a lot of promise, it just needed more work before publishing. The author should definitely be proud of what they've created here and I hope they read this review as a vote of encouragement and not as a negative critique. If this story ever gets redone with the help of an editor I'll be eager to give it another shot.

I rarely laugh out loud when reading a book
Évalué le: 2023-09-18
It's rare that I will literally laugh out loud when I'm alone, but this book had me doing it multiple times. I enjoyed reading a sapphic romance where the main characters actually had good communication too. The miscommunication trope is such a lazy way to keep the characters apart and it's so prevalent, it was such a breath if fresh air not to see it used here.
The plot was cute and fun, nothing ground-breaking or really all that original, but that's not always a bad thing, and it wasn't a bad thing here. I really enjoyed the characters and the relationship dynamics between them all (especially Val's friends). The various relationships (romantic, familial, and friendships), and the dialogue, felt a lot more natural and realistic to me than a lot of books I've read and I found myself wanting to be a part of that group too.
The Bachelorette party scene was beyond brilliant, and again one of the most realistic depictions I've encountered.
it's a great, fun, and cozy read. I loved it.

Histoire
Lucinda Hamilton settles down in sleepy Reverie, South Carolina, because she's running from the troubles of her past. But when her dangerous ex-husband evades law enforcement, she fears that no amount of running will ever make her safe again. Two women are determined to keep Lucinda's past at bay - the mysterious young nurse living on the other side of Lucinda's duplex, who won't even tell Lucinda her name, and Ardie Brown, an ex-marine who's recently moved back to Reverie herself. It's hard for Lucinda to trust either one; it's even harder to admit that she's falling for both of them.

This isn't a fluffy feel good romance
Évalué le: 2022-08-07
Just a heads up, spoiler free, if you're expecting the typical sapphic fluffy romance formula you're probably gonna be traumatized. This is not that.
But it IS excellent. As someone who has been in tge military, and has PTSD from non-military related trauma I'm in a bit of a unique situation to relate to both of the characters, other than my military experience definitely not reflecting the 'judged on your merit' experience of Ardy (different country maybe the issue there?). Levity aside the author's handling of PTSD is, once again, phenomenal. The complexity and nuance from book to book and character to character isn't something you often see and speaks to a very deep understanding of trauma and human behaviour.
And it's just a really unexpected and beautiful story that kept me asking questions to the very end.
And luckily I'm experienced enough at coping with trauma that I've suffered only minor psychological scarring despite going into this thinking it was the standard girl meets girl, girl falls for girl, something breaks the girls up, girls reunite and live happily ever after formula. ;)
It's good. Eliza's work always is, and this stands out from the pack.

An actual adult Sapphic fantasy novel!
Évalué le: 2022-04-07
I've read some of Eliza Andrews' previous works and quite enjoyed them, and stumbled across this while looking for non-YA Sapphic fantasy (which there seems to be an unfortunate dearth of). I was thrilled. I was even more thrilled to discover it was just as amazing as her other works I've read, and beyond thrilled to also discover an excellent performance by the audiobook narrator. Now if you'll excuse me I need to go listen to the second book now.
