New Podcast Fan!

I recently had listened to a few podcast episodes as an introduction and when I saw there was a book, I knew it would be something special. I wasn't disappointed. Oddly unsettling and oddly relatable, the story builds so well. As someone who doesn't know the lore of the Podcast, my several ears were delighted by the balance between the bizarre, and the relatable.
It's never scary, just oddly creepy in the best way possible. Masterfully Written and Narrated, this is a must have for your Halloween collection!

While investigating a fairly straightforward case of a shape-shifting interdimensional child predator, Dave, John, and Amy realized there might actually be something weird going on. Together, they navigate a diabolically convoluted maze of illusions, lies, and their own incompetence in an attempt to uncover a terrible truth they - like you - would be better off not knowing.

Beavis & Butthead vs Brain Warping Bug Monsters
Évalué le: 2023-03-24
Let me start by saying that I really enjoyed this book, and that it was fun to listen to. There were times where the plot felt a bit cluttered due to the constant changing of vantage points, but other than that, it was still very much 'Beavis & Butthead vs.The Brain Warping Bug Monsters', which is what I showed up for.

Warning: You may have a huge, invisible spider living in your skull. This is not a metaphor. You will dismiss this as ridiculous fearmongering. Dismissing things as ridiculous fearmongering is, in fact, the first symptom of parasitic spider infection - the creature secretes a chemical into the brain to stimulate skepticism, in order to prevent you from seeking a cure. That’s just as well, since the “cure” involves learning what a chain saw tastes like. You can’t feel the spider, because it controls your nerve endings.

Beavis and Butthead Do The Appocolypse
Évalué le: 2023-02-20
I really enjoyed this book. If you enjoyed the first one, it goes along with it thematically, but it doesn't rely on it. I loved the premise behind it certain plot points Amy and David going through this entire ordeal by trying to find each other, for instance.
There's a certain group of people (of which I am one) who will enjoy these books. It requires a certain suspension of disbelief, and enjoying knee slapping potty humor sprinkled into an apocalyptic scenario that David, John, and Amy go through. If that's your thing, welcome to the club!
Some argue that there isn't much character growth, but that's simply untrue. In between the first book and this, Amy has grown from being agoraphobic, to a well fleshed out character with a heart of Gold and a Moral Compass. John seems to be spiralling downward while growing more stoic. David is just, David+ love life.
To enjoy these books, just chill out, and realize it's not meant to fit in with timeless classics. It stands on its own for those ready to face the Apocalypse, but would rather see it through the Lens of bumbling, potty mouth characters in David and John. Amy is the mature one of the bunch, so it kind of creates an equilibrium between the silly and the serious.
The hard need to be asking here is, just how many lives does a dog have?

STOP. You should not have touched this flyer with your bare hands. NO, don't put it down. It's too late. They're watching you. My name is David Wong. My best friend is John. Those names are fake. You might want to change yours. You may not want to know about the things you'll read on these pages, about the sauce, about Korrok, about the invasion, and the future. But it's too late. You touched the book. You're in the game. You're under the eye. The only defense is knowledge. You need to read this book, to the end. Even the part with the bratwurst. Why?

It’s been three months since Stark stopped a death cult and a potential ghost apocalypse, and he’s at loose ends. His personal life is a mess. His professional life isn’t much better. LA is gripped by a viral epidemic. But what’s even more frightening is the Shoggot gang and their leader, King Bullet, who revels in the city’s collapse. Who is King Bullet? No one knows. He seemingly came from nowhere with nothing but a taste for mayhem and an army of crazed killers who follow his every command.

A Review or a Eulogy? God, I'm wordy.
Évalué le: 2021-09-16
If I wasn't smoking a pack of mal-addictions, I'd be crying right now at the end of this book. At the end of this series. This book brings everything full circle and ends right. It was clever to bring it to pandemic times and put a dystopian twist on it. I liked that.
It has a happy ending. I'm somewhat at a complete loss for words. Maybe I'll be praying to Sandman Slim from time to time. The patron Saint of Kicking A**. The patron Saint of the lost, and the destitute.
This is supposed to be the last book. While it's a fitting end, I don't want it to be the end. Hopefully there will be another one down the road. Artfully done, as always.
Also, in the spirit of Sandman Slim, a firm middle finger to anyone who ever hate read any book of the series.
Thank you Mr. Kadrey. This Series practically dragged me forward during times of my life I didn't see a way forward, or wanted one. Now thanks to you and your work getting me through, I've made it through to a point I can build from. No matter what, I'll always have this series to go back to. And maybe, if I'm lucky, Sandman Slim will come back when we all need him again, just like he always has.
Thanks Stark. Give Alice a hug for me. We'll all miss you so, so much.

Histoire
As the battle between warring angels continues, James Stark is focused on seemingly simpler matters now that he's resurfaced on earth: an invasion of ghosts. L.A.'s Little Cairo neighborhood has suddenly been overrun by violent spirits, and Thomas Abbott knows if anyone can figure out why they've appeared—and how to get rid of them—it's Stark. Armed with the Room of Thirteen Doors, Stark quickly learns that the answer may reach back to the 1970s and the unsolved murder of small-time actor, Chris Stein.

Fantastic
Évalué le: 2020-08-30
Sandman Slim has been to hell and back twice over. With PTSD and the world needing saving again, he takes on another herculean feat while figuring out his place in the world. It sort of reminds me of myself.
EXCELENT character development. I'm sad the next book will be the last of the series, but just as with this book and every other, I know Mr. Kadrey will not disappoint.
I don't understand the negative reviews. Character growth is important, and essential to a story. Considering his past, having to sort out where he sits in the world while saving it at the same time makes sense.
I'm glad the non-binary character was reintroduced in the way they were. It brings this book into modern times without pandering.
I cant say enough good things. Pick up a copy for yourself, and you'll hear first hand.

They say family always sticks together, but when you're your dad's only lifeline and the whole world - humans, dragons, and gods - wants you dead, "family bonding" takes on a whole new meaning. My name is Opal Yong-ae, and I'm in way over my head. I thought getting rid of my dad's bad luck curse would put things back to normal. Instead, I'm stuck playing caretaker to the Great Dragon of Korea. That wouldn’t be so bad if he wasn't such a jerk, or if every dragon on the planet wasn't out to kill him, or if he was my only problem.

A fantastic series
Évalué le: 2020-08-15
This entire series keeps you glued to your headphones. This author does a masterful job at storytelling from the first person perspective. If you enjoyed the first two books, this one will absolutely spellbind you. It would be a fitting end to this trilogy, yet selfishly, I hope that this isn't the last time I visit Opal, Nick, Great Yung of Korea, and the DFZ. I will hope for another addition to the series, but even if none comes to be, this ending has created a great sense of satisfaction. Bravo.

Amazing
Évalué le: 2020-07-28
This incarnation of The Dresden Files is a real page turner. Harry has no shortage of problems to solve, and he's doing it while balancing the new realities of fatherhood and a budding relationship to boot. The novel does a good job of setting up its follow up, pitting him against odds much greater and a foe much more powerful than anything he's faced off with before. There are some great 'feel good' moments, and does a great job at keeping you firmly positioned on the edge of your seat. One of the best books of the series in my opinion. Bravo!

A series that continues to draw me in
Évalué le: 2020-05-10
I am coming to thoroughly love this series. By now I've come to love the LITRPG genre through this series, but you should know that this is a far greater tale than a simple offshoot of the genre. No, this series thus far has held gripping adventure, tragedy, and this book in particular kept me on the edge of my seat in suspense. Every day upon waking, my first thought had planning out when I can sit down with a cappuccino and enjoy this book. I flew through it in less than a week. This is truly an ongoing story that I truly hope never ends. Furthermore, this inspires me as a fellow author creatively.
tldr: Epic story of friendship, tragedy, and triumph that will leave you laughing at times, on the edge of your seat.

Amazing!

A wonderful start to a series that I have no doubt will be great. The level up sounds are an acquired taste, but fit given the genre. I am now fully in love with the LITRPG genre after listening to this book. It fuses my love of Fantasy and Video games perfectly. It also makes me want to log onto my PC and embark on another ESO quest.
The narrator was amazing with the different characters, and.the writer is clearly skilled at story telling. I've already procured book 2, and will be starting it immediately.
Also, as a side note, for those who are put off by the level up noises, the best I can tell you is that I was too at first, but they decrease in frequency and become tolerable as an acquired taste.
