Histoire
Washington, DC, 1950. Everyone keeps to themselves at Briarwood House, a down-at-the-heels all-female boardinghouse in the heart of the nation’s capital where secrets hide behind white picket fences. But when the lovely, mysterious widow Grace March moves into the attic room, she draws her oddball collection of neighbors into unlikely friendship. Grace’s weekly attic-room dinner parties and window-brewed sun tea become a healing balm on all their lives, but she hides a terrible secret of her own.

I loved all of characters, how their lives weaves together and learning their backstory one by one. Wonderful book.

Histoire
Sally Milz is a sketch writer for The Night Owls, a late-night live comedy show that airs every Saturday. With a couple of heartbreaks under her belt, she’s long abandoned the search for love, settling instead for the occasional hook-up, career success, and a close relationship with her stepfather to round out a satisfying life. But when Sally’s friend and fellow writer Danny Horst begins dating Annabel, a glamorous actress who guest-hosted the show, he joins the not-so-exclusive group of talented but average-looking and even dorky men at the show.

Boring

Ironically, I did not find this book romantic or funny. I gave it two hours worth of listening and gave up. I didn’t like the characters and found it very boring. Not recommended.

Not Great
Évalué le: 2023-10-15
I really struggled listening to the first half of the book as the writer made so many poor, selfish decisions. While I appreciate this is supposed to be a story about redemption, the balance still felt like it focused on all about her. How brilliant she really is and the famous celebrities she meet that also thought she was amazing. I’m glad she is happy now but this didn’t achieve it’s goal for me.

Histoire
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Heartwarming Story

A nice listen, especially liked the chapters with the Marcellus which I wish we had more of. I found the character of Cameron unrealistic at times, he wasn’t my favourite but the rest of the story makes up for it. I loved the ending and recommend.

Histoire
It's 2038 and Jacinda (Jake) Greenwood is a storyteller and a liar, an overqualified tour guide babysitting ultra-rich-eco-tourists in one of the world's last remaining forests. It's 2008 and Liam Greenwood is a carpenter, sprawled on his back after a workplace fall and facing the possibility of his own death. It's 1974 and Willow Greenwood is just out of jail for one of her environmental protests: attempts at atonement for the sins of her father's once vast and rapacious timber empire.

Family
Évalué le: 2023-08-20
I loved this story of family and the complexities of what brings people together. Very well written and very entertaining. There were several performers with most being excellent. The female narrator the story of the funeral did a terrible Irish accent when portraying Liam. Other than that, they were fantastic. Very enjoyable listen.

Entertaining and Educational
Évalué le: 2023-08-20
This was a very enjoyable historical novel to read. I knew nothing about Bletchley Park or the women who contributed so much to the war effort. I loved the mix of fictional and non-fictional characters throughout the story. Great read!
