Histoire
Having done field work in New Guinea for more than 30 years, Jared Diamond presents the geographical and ecological factors that have shaped the modern world. From the viewpoint of an evolutionary biologist, he highlights the broadest movements both literal and conceptual on every continent since the Ice Age, and examines societal advances such as writing, religion, government, and technology.

This book is flawed in a number of ways that I don't care to get into, though it is an entertaining read, I'd take it in its entirety with a huge helping of salt. Also Jared Diamond is not a historian..................

Histoire
In Everthing Is F*cked, Mark Manson turns his gaze from the inevitable flaws within each individual self to the endless calamities taking place in the world around us. Drawing from the pool of psychological research on these topics, as well as the timeless wisdom of philosophers such as Plato, Nietzsche, and Tom Waits, he dissects religion and politics and the uncomfortable ways they have come to resemble one another. He looks at our relationships with money, entertainment, and the internet, and how too much of a good thing can psychologically eat us alive.

As a huge fan of The Sublet Art of Not Giving a F*ck I was pretty disappointed with this book. It doesn’t feature any of the insightful information that the previous book was so rich in.
The book seams to lack cohesion, and uniformity of subject matter, and honestly at times it feels like the Author is just taking the p*ss, so to speak. His overall tone sucks, and it just made me want to slap him.
It sounds like this book was something of an existential crisis for the writer, where he behaves poorly, lashes out against anyone and everything he perceives to be ‘stupid’—which may as well be everything as far as Mark’s concerned.
I got virtually nothing of value out of this book, which is stunning considering how meaningful his previous work has been to me.
The whole book boils down to: politics bad, religion bad, pain good, and the robots are coming for us... It’s depressing, it’s reductionist, and it is a damn shame that this is what Mark thought was worth devoting his time to.

I'm very happy to see more of this author's work on Audible. Seeing as the second book in this series is already out (and a third is in production) I'm very much interested to see where this story goes.
The second third of the book does feel like it drags on a bit without very much of substance happening. Also I have to say, very little of the plot was surprising or unexpected, and there are a fair few one-dimensional characters. While this book isn't the most engrossing or even the author's best work, it is a solid story, and it may just be the foundation for a great one.
Tim Susman has another pen name of which he's written under for years; I will not reveal it in this review since I can only make assumptions about his reasons for using an alt pen name. That being said, he does give it away on his website, and at the end of this book.

Histoire
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

I'm not one for self help style stuff, but man did this book ever chance my outlook on life. You owe it to yourself to read this book. I reread it usually every six months, or whenever I'm having a rough go of it. Mark Manson really knows his stuff, and he deserves all the credit in the world for this gem.

Meg's always thought that love and ghosts are fantasies for gullible people, but her skepticism is about to be tested. As her roommates Sol and Alexei move on with their lives, Meg remains stuck in her rut, unsure what to do about her future or about her best friend Athos. He wants more than friendship from her, but she isn't sure whether she's straight or gay, let alone in love with him. Not helping are the strange trances that show her the lives of two other young girls - one who wants to be a voodoo priestess, and the other who wants to escape a Christian cult.

I really enjoyed this entry. You can tell Kyell did a lot of work on this one, and it makes up for the depressing story of the last book. I'd love to see Kyell explore more stories in this universe, or even follow up on per-existing characters. Great performance from Max Miller, absolutely gotta bring him back for future audio books.

Slow Beginning but Good Payoff

The first half, while an interesting idea, is a little slow. The second half has a surprisingly tragic, yet satisfying story. It's not terribly long, but if you're in the mood for some modern-contemporary gay stories, give it a go.

Devlin Miski thought coming out on national TV would be the hardest part about being a gay football player. But it's when his press conference is over that the trouble really starts. The athletic tiger and his boyfriend Lee, a fox with a tongue as quick as his wit, still won't get many breaks in their fight for understanding. They'll need to deal with a stubborn reporter determined to get a story any way he can, furious parents, and hostile teammates - not to mention each other.

This story-line is just not appealing to me. It lacks all of the the qualities that drew me into Kyell's work in the first place. I wanted to give the series a second chance by checking out the sequel, but came away not thrilled.

Histoire
Dev is a football player at Forester University, a small liberal arts college where he and his teammates get to strut around and have their pick of the girls on Friday nights. That's as good as it gets - until he meets Lee, a fox with a quick wit and an attractive body. Problem is, Lee's not a girl. He's a gay fox, an activist who never dreamed he'd fall for a football player. As their attraction deepens into romance, it's hard enough for them to handle each other, let alone their inquisitive friends, family, and co-workers.

Audio quality is poor and a professional narrator would go a long way. This strikes me as an odd choice since Kyell's other audio books are done by a fantastic narrator. Overall I couldn't get into the story either, this series it seams, just isn't for me.

You can skip this one and miss out on nothing, that'd be my advice. It's just not exciting, it's not in any way the same magic he managed to capture with Green Fairy, and I'm sad to say that. I'm sad to say this is my least favorite of his books.
