I love this series.
The narration is awesome, the story is great. This series is awesome. This book was more of a things to come type story but I'm hooked so the setup for the next book is exciting.

Wow (Spoilers)
Different from Age of War but still very much about relationships, this one hit me personally. Being a child of the 80's I was very much influenced by the Never Ending Story and actually traumatized by the part when Artax was swallowed by the bog. The last chapters of Age of Legend took me back there, made me feel that horror again, and made me feel like what it would have been like if I were Artax. My heart was in my throat the whole time. I mean, it was excruciating and I love that a book can still make me feel that way. The fact that this bog is a gateway and more than simple oblivion was cathartic. Wow. And now I have to wait...

Best ending
I can’t get over how amazing of an ending to a book that was. So deliciously dark. I am glad that I found this series years after it was finished so I know there are more books

Can’t stop. Sequel to read!
It’s rare that I give short shrift to a review because I’m in too great a hurry to read the sequel. This is one of those reviews, so here goes:
Another irredeemable character joins the Viewpoint Character team.
The Arms Race continues.
Unlikely people are revealed as Very Important.
Many viewpoint characters have few lines this season oops in this novel.

An amazing novel with amazing narration.
Every novel in The Legends of the First Empire series has been absolute perfection thus far and Tim Reynolds amazing narration brings them to life. I am so glad I started this series after all the books were released, so I did not have to wait for each novel to be released!!!

Reading the series is a must, doesn't stand alone
Tim Gerard Reynolds does an excellent job with narration. Since I have listened to all the Riyria books and this series he, to me, is the voice of this world and setting. The story starts a bit slow but picks up speed. There is one part of the book when one of the main characters does something I would consider stupid and I found it pissed me off, and then I realized it is because I actually care about these characters. Some secrets are revealed and my only real complaint about this book is that it is not a stand alone book. If you had not read what came before, you might be ok but probably not and the worst sin, is it ends in the middle of the story. I don't mean the overarching epic, I mean the story that is being told just stops in the middle.

minutes in and beyond excited
In preparation for tomorrow's release of Age of Legend I have been enjoying listening to the various books in various order. I have tried the series chronologically as well as dates of publication. Both bring joy!
Sometimes a master sculpture seems to be releasing a detailed masterpiece from the shackles of a block of clay. Not created but simply revealed. These novels feel just so. Michael J Sullivan is a master. The weave of details and brilliance often have me gasping. Down to a petulant fhey prince who is still, at thousands of years of age, taking credit for magical strawberries.
Thank you for these wonderful pieces of Art!
