À propos de cet audio
In American Psycho, Bret Easton Ellis imaginatively explores the incomprehensible depths of madness and captures the insanity of violence in our time or any other. Patrick Bateman moves among the young and trendy in 1980s Manhattan. Young, handsome, and well educated, Bateman earns his fortune on Wall Street by day while spending his nights in ways we cannot begin to fathom. Expressing his true self through torture and murder, Bateman prefigures an apocalyptic horror that no society could bear to confront.
As an added bonus, when you purchase our Audible Modern Vanguard production of Bret Easton Ellis' book, you'll also get an exclusive Jim Atlas interview that begins when the audiobook ends.

In Las Vegas to cover a motorcycle race, Raoul Duke (Thompson) and his attorney Dr. Gonzo (inspired by a friend of Thompson) are quickly diverted to search for the American dream. Their quest is fueled by nearly every drug imaginable and quickly becomes a surreal experience that blurs the line between reality and fantasy. But there is more to this hilarious tale than reckless behavior, for underneath the hallucinogenic facade is a stinging criticism of American greed and consumerism.

Histoire
From his first novel – Less Than Zero – published when he was still a college student – to his most recent – the fierce American Psycho, Bret Easton Ellis has been a powerful and original presence in contemporary literature, whether giving voice to a previously inchoate generation or provoking a controversy that raged throughout the culture. Now he takes a quantum leap forward: an awesome reckoning of the American Century at endgame. In Glamorama, a young man in what is recognizably fashion and celebrity-obsessed Manhattan is gradually, imperceptibly drawn into a shadowy looking-glass of that society, there and in London and Paris, and then finds himself trapped on the other side, in a much darker place where fame and terrorism and family and politics are inextricably linked and sometimes indistinguishable. At once implicated and horror-stricken, his ways of escape blocked at every turn, he ultimately discovers – back on the other, familiar side – that there was no mirror, no escape, no world but this one in which hotels implode and planes fall from the sky.

Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk is a novel made up of stories: 23 of them, to be precise. Twenty-three of the most horrifying, hilarious, mind-blowing, stomach-churning tales you'll ever encounter, sometimes all at once. They are told by people who have answered an ad headlined "Writers' Retreat: Abandon Your Life for Three Months", and who are led to believe that here they will leave behind all the distractions of "real life" that are keeping them from creating the masterpiece that is in them.

Welcome to Derry, Maine. It’s a small city, a place as hauntingly familiar as your own hometown. Only in Derry the haunting is real. They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. Now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. But the promise they made 28 years ago calls them reunite in the same place where, as teenagers, they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children.

White is Bret Easton Ellis's first work of nonfiction. Already the bad boy of American literature, from Less Than Zero to American Psycho, Ellis has also earned the wrath of right-thinking people everywhere with his provocations on social media, and here he escalates. Eschewing convention, he embraces views that will make many in literary and media communities cringe, as he takes aim at anti-Trump fixation, coastal elites, corporate censorship, Hollywood, identity politics, Generation Wuss, "woke" cultural watchdogs, and more.

American Psycho was always a book I've been interested in but never took the time to read or listen to. While I did really like the ambiguity, I wasn't a fan of the ending.

I laughed way to much listening to this book
Lots of messed up parts in the book few animals abuse parts so be ready for those, wasn't the biggest fan of the story. Their are a few chapters where Patrick is just talking about albums for 10-18 minutes that just didn't do it for me.
With all that being said when Patrick isn't killing animals or call girls the book is extremely funny I was laughing out loud many times though the book which I wasn't expecting and the performance was top notch I also felt was a little long but was a good read overall.
Now I have to go, I have to return some videotapes.

Did not like the book at first. Now I can’t stop thinking about it.
This book was a roller coaster. When I first started reading (ahem, listening) to the book, I disliked it greatly. I felt it was so negative, with such unlikable characters that I thought to just turn off the book completely. Yet, I decided I would listen more. And for some reason I kept listening. It seemed that the more the book went on, the better it got. Patrick Bateman grew on me more and more, to the point where In the end... I sympathized with the charismatic near charming American Psycho. Delving way into the brain of Patrick Bateman was super interesting. Learning how the main character saw the world. How he felt, and why was great. Personally some of the best parts were the chapters where they just casually mention some of the craziest stuff ever. To the point where Patrick’s insanity becomes near comedic. It has a clear message which I wouldn’t want to spoil/ don’t know how to explain. Some of the writing flaws can be seen as a contributor to the message however, even if some are blatantly obvious. Such as pace,
over-description of certain aspects, sometimes providing vague detail to the setting. Yet you can see why they were made this way to enter the perspective of the main character. There isn’t exactly a linear plot to the story. It’s more so about Patrick Bateman screwing around in his day to day life, with more of a recurring plot line that shows up every once in a while that I didn’t feel too much importance to. I thought this would turn me off, but didn’t let it be a deal breaker. So the more I listened, the more I got used to the various locations and entertaining conversations/ observations. I thought it was just useless banter at first, and it even might have been, but the voice actor was AMAZING. It might sound the least important since I am putting it last, but if it weren’t for the phenomenal voice actor of the story, I don’t think I would have wanted to finish the book. He was so great, I think he has ruined all other voice actors for other audiobooks. He does the voices so well, even though they are all done by him, they all feel like different and unique characters that totally fit their personality style. I could clearly imagine a person completely based off of their voice, and recognized their different forms of speech and pronunciation as they spoke. Of course I still imagined Patrick Bateman looking like Christian bale from the movie version (which I specifically didn’t watch beforehand just to enjoy the book more). Bravo Pablo schreiber (voice actor), couldn’t have finished this book without you. Truly made it 110% better than it could have been. Can’t even listen to another audiobook without thinking about this one. In total, good entertainment, great voice actor, great message, thought provoking, with a so-so story that isn’t really the focus of the book anyways. In total a 4/5

Amazing book.
Amazing book. Anyone who complains about the minute detail of characters clothing and repetitive pointless conversations is entirely missing the point of American Psycho. There is one part towards the end that is maddening, listening to Bateman on the phone with his buddies trying to figure out dinner reservations over and over. I actually started to lose my mind at this part and wanted to hurl my phone at the wall. There are some very graphic torture scenes so heads up on that. It's very interesting to watch Bateman lose his grip on reality and I found this very relatable in some ways. After listening to this audio book I think I may actually be a psychopath lol. Highly recommend this book for anyone that enjoyed the movie. Couldn't stop picturing Christian Bale the whole time.
