À propos de cet audio
Caring for the Dying describes a whole new way to approach death and dying. It explores how the dying and their families can bring deep meaning and great comfort to the care given at the end of a life. Created by Henry Fersko-Weiss, the end-of-life doula model is adapted from the work of birth doulas and helps the dying to find meaning in their life, express that meaning in powerful and beautiful legacies, and plan for the final days. The approach calls for around-the-clock vigil care, so the dying person and their family have the emotional and spiritual support they need along with guidance on signs and symptoms of dying. It also covers the work of reprocessing a death with the family afterward and the early work of grieving. Emphasis is placed on the space around the dying person and encourages the use of touch, guided imagery, and ritual during the dying process. Throughout the book Fersko-Weiss tells amazing and encouraging stories of the people he has cared for as well as stories that come from doulas he has trained and worked with over the years.

A Very Important Read
For anyone, at any stage of life, death is an inevitability. It can be a clinical, perhaps painful, cold experience, devoid of meaning and comfort, or, through a reimagined process and plan, death can be a peaceful, beautiful experience for the person dying and their family and community. A meaningful death can bring a greater sense of meaning to a life. In reading this book you will learn how a family that is scared to lose a loved one can experience their final days and the aftermath with a pointant sense of wonder and renewal. The experience can be one of honouring the person dying, the family and the process, when approached with the education, preparation, and support the end of life doula can provide. I will definitely be directing my family to hire such a person for my death, and I may even consult one for writing my end of life directives now, after reading this important work.

read the book
This is an incredible book but the narration made it almost impossible to stick with. The false 'female' voice the reader took on to 'play' the clients made them sound whiney and fragile - it was an insult to those who identify as female, and completely unnecessary for this kind of book...really took away from an excellent resource.
