À propos de cet audio
A hard-hitting exposé of SEAL Team 6, the US military’s best-known brand, that reveals how the Navy SEALs were formed, then sacrificed, in service of American empire.
The Navy SEALs are, in the eyes of many Americans, the ultimate heroes. When they killed Osama Bin Laden in 2011, it was celebrated as a massive victory. Former SEALs rake in cash as leadership consultants for corporations, and young military-bound men dream of serving in their ranks.
But the SEALs have lost their bearings. Investigative journalist Matthew Cole tells the story of the most lauded unit, SEAL Team 6, revealing a troubling pattern of war crimes and the deep moral rot beneath authorized narratives. From their origins in World War II, the SEALs have trained to be specialized killers with short missions. As the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan became the endless War on Terror, their violence spiraled out of control.
Code Over Country details the high-level decisions that unleashed the SEALs’ carnage and the coverups that prevented their crimes from coming to light. It is a necessary and rigorous investigation of the unchecked power of the military—and the harms enacted by and upon soldiers in America’s name.

In the predawn hours of March 4, 2002, just below the 10,000-foot peak of a mountain in eastern Afghanistan, a fierce battle raged. Outnumbered by Al Qaeda fighters, Air Force Combat Controller John Chapman and a handful of SEALs struggled to take the summit in a desperate bid to find a lost teammate. Chapman, leading the charge, was gravely wounded in the initial assault. Believing he was dead, his SEAL leader ordered a retreat. Chapman regained consciousness, alone with the enemy closing in on three sides, beginning the most difficult and exceptional fight of his life.

Southern Afghanistan was slipping away. That was clear to then-Captain Rusty Bradley as he began his third tour of duty there in 2006. The Taliban and their allies were infiltrating everywhere, poised to reclaim Kandahar Province, their strategically vital onetime capital. To stop them, the NATO coalition launched Operation Medusa, the largest offensive in its history. The battlefield was the Panjwayi Valley, a densely packed warren of walled compounds that doubled neatly as enemy bunkers.

The Only Thing Worth Dying For chronicles the most important mission in the early days of the Global War on Terror, when the men on the ground knew little about the enemy - and their commanders in Washington knew even less. With unprecedented access to surviving members of ODA 574, key war planners, and Karzai himself, award-winning author Eric Blehm cuts through the noise of politicians and high-level military officials to narrate, for the first time, a story of uncommon bravery and terrible sacrifice.

On September 11, 2018, Navy SEAL Chief Edward Gallagher - a highly-decorated combat veteran with nine deployments to war zones in Africa, Afghanistan, and Iraq - was arrested for war crimes at the TBI medical clinic where he was receiving treatment. His incarceration was the culmination of a year-long whisper campaign started by a group of disgruntled members of his SEAL platoon. While heavily covered in the media, the full story of how a war hero was railroaded and nearly sent to prison for life for crimes he didn't commit has never been told.

At 24 years of age, U.S. Army Ranger Sean Parnell was named commander of a forty-man elite infantry platoon - a unit that came to be known as the Outlaws - and was tasked with rooting out Pakistan-based insurgents from a mountain valley along Afghanistan's eastern frontier. Parnell and his men assumed they would be facing a ragtag bunch of civilians, but in May 2006 what started out as a routine patrol through the lower mountains of the Hindu Kush became a brutal ambush.

Seals with problems
This is not a joyful story of a group who ,for years, have been allowed to do horrendous things in the name of country. The unsupervised group led by an unregulated leader with a warped sense of right has lead to this moment in time. Sad that we didn’t see it coming and stop it earlier.

Fantastic Read.
Fantastic book that outlines a lot of the failures and ethical issues surrounding our Elite fighters and the teams. I'm a big fan of all the "Brand" books and have read probably every SEAL book I could find.
The only part part I thought was a biased tone against EG, and the ethical issues surrounding the SEALs that were caught lying over and over in their testimony or the lack of blaming the Command for abusing their own powers in regards to his case. It also leaves out a huge detail of why the first prosecutor was removed from the case. It seemed as if it was biased against conservatives.
Other than that, I couldn't stop listening as it was quite informative, well investigated, well written and the right reader was selected to deliver it.
5/5 Stars. A must read. I only hope the author continues to expose this kind of stuff in the other Tier 1 and 2 units, including OGA's. If they have ethic problems.

People are Human.
Having been in the military, and seen first hand how leaders change the narrative of any situation that put themselves, the leadership in a poor light. I do not condone the atrocities committed by the troops but i find the fact that 3 of the people that fostered the attitudes and allow the mafia mentality are still in charge is....wow!

SEAL hate book
Not a good story. Just a guy who seems to hate the seals and found a collection of stories without context spun to create drama and controversy. Has a whole section on how Devgru is rogue and lawless because senior enlisted with actual experience guide tactics instead of brand new officers but then blames officer leadership on mission failure later on for not listening to their senior members … this author seems to cherry pick commonplace practices throughout government and private sector and pretend that the seals are the only unit that engages in things like monetizing their skill set to make a career post retirement ( selling self defence techniques so commonplace a civilian instructor created them, sold them to police then sold them to the seals but got offended when seals tried to jeopardize his monopoly) . Overall just a frustrating read of very bias writing from someone who comes across as a hater of unconventional military units.
