À propos de cet audio
When Michael Moorcock began chronicling the adventures of the albino sorcerer Elric, last king of decadent Melniboné, and his sentient vampiric sword, Stormbringer, he set out to create a new kind of fantasy adventure, one that broke with tradition and reflected a more up-to-date sophistication of theme and style. The result was a bold and unique hero - weak in body, subtle in mind, dependent on drugs for the vitality to sustain himself - with great crimes behind him and a greater destiny ahead: a rock-and-roll antihero who would channel all the violent excesses of the '60s into one enduring archetype.
Now, presented in the author's preferred story order, the classic Elric saga.

The stories in The Dying Earth introduce dozens of seekers of wisom and beauty, lovely lost women, wizards of every shade of eccentricity with their runic amulets and spells. We meet the melancholy deodands, who feed on human flesh and the twk-men, who ride dragonflies and trade information for salt. There are monsters and demons. Each being is morally ambiguous: The evil are charming, the good are dangerous. All are at home.

Almost anyone who has read or written science fiction or fantasy has been inspired by the work of Michael Moorcock. His literary flair and grand sense of adventure have been evident since his controversial first novel Behold the Man, from the stories and novels featuring his most famous character, Elric of Melniboné, to his fantasy masterpiece, Gloriana, winner of both the Campbell Memorial and World Fantasy awards for best novel.

Lifelong friends, they went their separate ways. Now they are together again, though each holds secrets from the others in his heart. They speak of a world shadowed with rumors of war. They speak of tales of strange monsters, creatures of myth, creatures of legend. They do not speak of their secrets. Not then. classic
I always wondered about the albino swordsman trope, and which stories really got it rolling. The stories come across a bit like a powerful dungeons and dragons character being run through a series of fantastical one-off adventures. Very epic, with eloquently written dialogue, but simple or compact at the same time.
Excellent narration.

Compelling me to continue listening from the drive to and from work, while making dinner and evening reading entertainment. Uniquely strange and cool story epically told. Throughout my listening I felt strongly that this story, so well told, could easily be translated to television! Please someone make this into a television series 🙏

Not your typical S&S hero.
Almost the opposite of Conan. Relatively frail and full of doubts, nevertheless Elric is a compelling character. The setting is strange and mysterious with well fleshed out characters and excellent battles. I see why people are so compellied by his stories.

Great stuff, but misleading cover
I've only just started listening to this, but I thought I should let people know that while the cover says "foreword by Neil Gaiman", what's actually included is Gaiman's previously available short story "One Life, Furnished in Early Moorcock". It's a good story and its inclusion here makes a kind of sense, but it's not a foreword.
