À propos de cet audio
He saw what you did.
He knows who you are....
From the New York Times best-selling author of Pieces of Her and The Silent Wife, an electrifying stand-alone thriller.
An ordinary life...
Leigh Collier has worked hard to build what looks like a normal life. She has a good job as a defense attorney, a daughter doing well in school, and even her divorce is relatively civilized - her life is just as unremarkable as she’d always hoped it would be.
...hides a devastating past...
But Leigh’s ordinary life masks a childhood that was far from average...a childhood tarnished by secrets, broken by betrayal, and finally torn apart by a devastating act of violence.
...but now the past is catching up...
Then a case lands on her desk - defending a wealthy man accused of rape. It’s the highest profile case she’s ever been given - a case that could transform her career, if she wins. But when she meets the accused, she realizes that it’s no coincidence that he’s chosen her as his attorney. She knows him. And he knows her. More to the point, he knows what happened 20 years ago and why Leigh has spent two decades running.
...and time is running out.
If she can’t get him acquitted, she’ll lose much more than the case. The only person who can help her is her estranged younger sister Callie, the last person Leigh would ever want to ask for help. But suddenly she has no choice....

Atlanta, 1974: It's Kate Murphy's first day on the job, and the Atlanta Police Department is seething after the murder of an officer. Before the day has barely begun, she already suspects she's not cut out to be a cop. Worse still, in the ensuing manhunt she'll be partnered with Maggie Lawson, a cop with her own ax to grind.

One weekend, while Andrew Mason was on a fishing trip, his wife, Brie, vanished without a trace. Most everyone assumed Andy had got away with murder—it’s always the husband, isn’t it?—but the police could never build a strong case against him. For a while, Andy hit rock bottom—he drank too much to numb the pain, was abandoned by all his friends save one, nearly lost his business, and became a pariah in the place he once called home.

Entertaining
As always, I enjoy Karin Slaughter’s books and Kathleen Early’s narration.
As with several other books I have listened to by this author, there is one or more section of the book that is repeated. Generally, 1-3 paragraphs. I have found this in most of Karin’s books so I would say whomever is editing needs to pay closer attention. No, it is not that I have stopped listening and backtracked a bit.
The only other thing I want to point out that was a huge bone of contention for me was the pronunciation of the name Calliope. It is not Calli Ope as Kathleen pronounced it throughout the reading, but Cal Eye O Pee.

Listen to it over two days
I have always been A big fan of Karen slaughter.
I enjoyed the Will Trent books & the Grant County.
And I’ve always wanted her to make more of those Series. I have enjoyed the book sense, but this one was the one that makes me want to relisten two her series from the beginning. 🤞🏼 someone makes a movie out of her books because they’re so good, and I would love to see how it translate.

A good read
As I read parts of this book, I wondered if it had a trigger warning. It entailed some pretty violent and disturbing images that I found difficult to hear at certain points. The author does a wonderful job however, in humanizing the characters. Narration was excellent in that it was very clear which characters were speaking and the voices were not over- performed.

Fantastic Read
This audible was the best of all Karin Slaughter’s books. I’ve read all the Will Trent books and enjoyed them to various degrees but this book was several levels above those. Kathleen Early is one of the best narrators around.

First Slaughter Novel
The characters are rich and complex, the time setting familiar, the subject matter important, the narration excellent - I fully loved this novel. Thrillers are my preferred genre, and this one really impressed me. I will certainly be seeking out more of Karin Slaughter's novels. But I know it will be difficult to top this one, so I'll try and keep my expectations in check. Thank you for this unexpected treat.
