À propos de cet audio
"Linwood Barclay's I Will Ruin You is a page-turner that also has important things to say. You'll get your money's worth out of this one."–Stephen King
In the latest novel from New York Times bestselling author Linwood Barclay, a teacher’s act of heroism inadvertently makes him the target of a dangerous blackmailer who will stop at nothing to get what he wants.
How would you react in a life-or-death situation?
It’s a question everyone asks themselves, but few have to face in real life. English teacher Richard Boyle certainly never thought he would find himself talking down a former student intent on harming others, but when Mark LeDrew shows up at Richard’s school with a bomb strapped to his chest, Richard immediately jumps into action. Thanks to some quick thinking, he averts a major tragedy and is hailed as a hero, but not all the attention focused on him is positive.
Richard’s brief moment in the spotlight puts him in the sights of a deranged blackmailer with a score to settle. The situation rapidly spirals out of control, drawing Richard into a fraught web of salacious accusations and deadly secrets. As he tries to uncover the truth he discovers that there’s something deeply wrong in the town—something that ties together Mark, the blackmailer, and a gang of ruthless drug dealers, and Richard has landed smack in the middle of it. He’s desperate to find a way out, but everyone in his life seems to be hiding something, and trusting the wrong person could cost him everything he loves.
What price will he pay for one good deed?

It happens more than you might think. One second someone’s life is totally typical, the next it’s terribly tragic. Everything they had, everything they planned, everything they were, all of it vanishes in a flash. Shock and sorrow leave the victim staring into tomorrow’s void, wondering: How did it happen? Who did it? And why?

It’s been ten years since Priscilla and her Zeta Phi Zeta sorority sisters graduated college. Ten years since they were all in the same room together. Ten years since one of them died. And now Lupé’s killer has been released from prison on a technicality, days before their ten-year reunion. Priscilla decides that the party must go on; Lupé would have wanted it to. And besides, an epic reunion bash might be the perfect distraction. Back together, the Zetas party like it’s 2012, and it’s wild, just the way it used to be. Maybe too wild.

How Have I Not Heard of Linwood Barclay?!
I only stumbled across this book because it was a Daily Deal on Audible. I hadn’t heard of the author before, but the story seemed like it might be interesting. So, despite a few negative reviews on this particular book, I gave it a try.
I am sure glad I did, because Barclay is a truly engaging writer. The way he unfolds a story is masterful, pulling you in from start to finish. I didn’t ever want to stop, and looked forward with anticipation to continue later to see what would happen. His portrayal of ordinary people caught up in extraordinary circumstances makes it very relatable. He weaves in a lot of subtle humour and his descriptions of people’s thoughts and reactions to every situation are very believable.
I guess I’m not really saying much about this book in particular, but whether you’re already familiar with Barclay, or simply enjoy this type of story, you won’t be disappointed. I’m already half through one of his earlier books and have more on my wish list! One last comment would be on the narration. While I think it was unnecessary to have two different narrators in this case, both are very good and I will look forward to hearing more of their work in the future.

Characters were annoying and not believable.
Have enjoyed this author's other books, but this one fell short of my expectations. The main character's actions were just plain stupid. The plot was hardly believable. The narrator was overly dramatic and annoying. BIG disappointment.
