Description
AN INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER!
“This Golden Girls meets James Bond thriller is a journey you want to be part of.”—Buzzfeed
Older women often feel invisible, but sometimes that’s their secret weapon.
They’ve spent their lives as the deadliest assassins in a clandestine international organization, but now that they're 60 years old, four women friends can’t just retire—it’s kill or be killed in this action-packed thriller by New York Times best-selling and Edgar Award-nominated author Deanna Raybourn.
Billie, Mary Alice, Helen, and Natalie have worked for the Museum, an elite network of assassins, for 40 years. Now their talents are considered old-school and no one appreciates what they have to offer in an age that relies more on technology than people skills.
When the foursome is sent on an all-expenses paid vacation to mark their retirement, they are targeted by one of their own. Only the Board, the top-level members of the Museum, can order the termination of field agents, and the women realize they’ve been marked for death.
Now to get out alive they have to turn against their own organization, relying on experience and each other to get the job done, knowing that working together is the secret to their survival. They’re about to teach the Board what it really means to be a woman—and a killer—of a certain age.

Everyone in my family has killed someone. Some of us, the high achievers, have killed more than once. I’m not trying to be dramatic, but it is the truth. Some of us are good, others are bad, and some just unfortunate. I’m Ernest Cunningham. Call me Ern or Ernie. I wish I’d killed whoever decided our family reunion should be at a ski resort, but it’s a little more complicated than that.

Ce que les critiques en disent
“[An] unpredictable and propulsive romp of a thriller…an inventive and distinctly feminist escapade.”—Oprah Daily
“A singular suspense story thanks to its deftly fluctuating tone, which is by turns comical, violent and unexpectedly affecting…it’s impossible not to root for these dangerous dames and their refusal to let themselves be put on the ash heap—a phrase that, in this thriller, should be taken literally.”—The Washington Post
“A sharp and witty thriller.”—PopSugar

Very entertaining
Fun escapism. Somewhat ageist, unfortunately. Lets face it, 60 is the new 50 nowadays and referring to the women as old ladies is a bit much. Apart from that and the narrator's terrible (though thankfully short) attenpts at an English accent, I still found it fun. I even found myself hoping for this to become a series. After all, they could have many more productive and destructive years ahead of them .

Disappointing
I have very much enjoyed Deanna Raybourn's Veronica Speedwell series and so was excited to see a new book by the same author. I was even more interested when I read comparison to the Thursday Murder Club series which I have also enjoyed.
However, although I was interested enough to finish the book, I was quite disappointed in a number of ways. The characters were just not as engaging as they are in the previous series. Their personalities were rather flat and almost impersonal.. Although the ingenuity behind many of the killings was impressive, there was just way too much blood and gore, at least for my taste. Finally the narrator's attempts at an English accent was absolutely cringe-worthy.

Lovely lady killers
Imagine retiring after years of service, only to be hunted down to be killed. This might not be so unexpected if you and your coworkers are assassins, but still very rude. I really enjoyed this book. It has a great cast of characters and the perspective was refreshing. We're not all in college anymore and it's nice not rolling my eyes at nieve characters. This was a great read. Well written, and I looked forward to each chapter. The audible version has two great narrators that added to the story with their talents. Goodread!

A well told tale
You can see this really happening and who knows maybe it did (Creation of an assassins organization after World War II) but it has a touch of Austin Powers about it - I loved it - loved all the ladies in it - moral of the story don’t count out the old folks
