À propos de cet audio
From New York Times best-selling novelist Sharon Kay Penman comes the stunning story of a great medieval warrior-king, the accomplished and controversial son of Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine: Richard the Lionheart. A powerful tale of intrigue, war, and diplomacy, Lionheart plays out against the roiling conflicts of love and loyalty, passion and treachery, all set against the rich textures of the Holy Land.

Penman is a master of her craft
I have read all of Penman's books (including this one) and loved the audiobook. It brought another layer of understanding to the story. The narrative is compelling and the narrator did this dense novel justice. I would love it if they would add the Welsh trilogy to the audiobook collection. Bring on more Penman!

Disappointing
Perhaps I was spoiled by the first three books in this series, but I struggled to finish this book.
I didn't find the writing or story nearly as compelling as the first two. Conversations often came off as forced, with written phrasing rather than more natural speech. The story vacillated between interesting, believable historical fiction and eye-rolling romance.
Overall I found the narration quite dull and stilted, with some characterizations bordering on comical. The narrator seemed to struggle with the lower register, to the extent that male voices generally had very little expression. I often found pauses or breaks during longer sentences to be in unnatural spots, which sometimes left me wondering if she had lost her place before continuing.
I see the next book has the same narrator, so I'll be skipping it.
