Omni Colt is a storyteller. But her bipolar disorder completely bankrupts this idea. On the outskirts of Durham, North Carolina, she is forced to conceal any sign of bipolar disorder like a weapon that is only wielded against her.
But when she's invited to compete for a ritzy writing internship and a long-time-coming love story blooms between her and her best friend's cousin, Anthony, Omni learns the impossibility of hiding the enormity of her illness. In the end, Omni must decide to tell her story or to suffer alone.
With Mental being Jessica's debut novel, she knew that this work must speak volumes to authenticity. So, she began writing Mental as a wish list of the person she wanted to be at 15 years old. While Jessica tries to sift out every life lesson on adulthood, relationships, and mental health, she enjoys continuing to grow up alongside her 15 nieces and nephews.
