“A dark and irresistible debut.” (People)
“Will shock even the savviest suspense readers.” (Real Simple)
Dexter meets Mr. and Mrs. Smith in this wildly compulsive debut thriller about a couple whose 15-year marriage has finally gotten too interesting....
Our love story is simple. I met a gorgeous woman. We fell in love. We had kids. We moved to the suburbs. We told each other our biggest dreams, and our darkest secrets. And then we got bored. We look like a normal couple. We're your neighbors, the parents of your kid's friend, the acquaintances you keep meaning to get dinner with. We all have our secrets to keeping a marriage alive. Ours just happens to be getting away with murder.

A couple hundred miles away, Jeffrey returns home from a work trip to find his wife, Sabine, is missing. Wherever she is, she’s taken almost nothing with her. Her abandoned car is the only evidence the police have, and all signs point to foul play.

As children, Sam and Elli were two halves of a perfect whole: gorgeous identical twins whose parents sometimes couldn’t even tell them apart. They fell asleep to the sound of each other’s breath at night, holding hands in the dark. And once Hollywood discovered them, they became B-list child TV stars, often inhabiting the same role. But as adults, their lives have splintered. After leaving acting, Elli reinvented herself as the perfect homemaker: married to a real estate lawyer, living in a house just blocks from the beach.

A little cheesy in parts
I am a huge true crime fan, but this was just a bit too unrealistic for me. It had a good plot, but it just wasn’t quite there.

Keep listening!
I felt awkward at first as this isn't a book I'm usually into. I usually read from a victim's perspective but from the killer, it was a bit off-putting at first. I kept listening and the ending really had me!!

Difficult to get through
Very slow pace. Will be ~ 8.5hrs of build up for a quick climax and resolution that is too convenient to be remotely plausible. Even though a husband and wife get off by murdering others, their family dynamic is quite dull. This book would be best suited for teenagers as the level of detail and real world dynamics are not there. One really has to ignore huge plot holes to make this enjoyable. If you like the detail and suspense of Tom Clancy or Jack Carr, this book is not for you.

story was good, narrator was not a favourite. His voice was great for the main character but maybe too deep for the female roles.

Creepy but not deep enough.
Characters are not very developed. I honestly didn’t care for anyone especially not the protagonist. But the book became fast paced after the second half and was glad when it was over.

Okay.
I found the narrator very irritating, his voice was not pleasant to listen to and his female impersonations. The story was interesting, a little unbelievable but still interesting.
