À propos de cet audio

From the age of 14, Caitlin was completely controlled, repeatedly raped, provided with alcohol, given drugs, sold and passed on to new gangs over and over again. The majority of her abusers were Pakistani men, who were blatant in their attacks upon her, often collecting her from school or home, to be taken to flats they owned, family homes or hotels booked for the day, to be horrifically and systematically abused.

At a time when the abuse ring realities of young white women in Rotherham and other major English cities are coming to light, Caitlin's story will appal listeners - not just because of the degree of horrific attacks which were perpetrated upon her but also because of the ways in which the authorities refused to act.

Caitlin speaks openly about what she has suffered and also shows just how unwilling many people are to face up to what is happening in our midst, for fear of being called racist. By bravely speaking out, she will hopefully prove just how deep these problems are and just how the abusers get away with it in plain sight of the authorities.

Harrowing. Frustrating.

Author 'Caitlin Spencer' (assisted capably by ghostwriter Linda Watson-Brown) relates a heartwrenching tale of spiralling into sex-trafficking in the UK and Australia - predominantly at the hands of Muslim gangs. The experiences that this young woman endured are legitimately horrifying - but described with an admirably circumspect/clinical mindset.. Spencer avoids unnecessarily explicit description and employs most effective foreshadowing (e.g. " I thought it couldn't get worse.. I was soon to see that I was wrong.") to yield a readable exposé that reintroduced interest frequently and made the story useful as a Case Study (to those that are so interested).

NOTE: Truism: When someone opens with the sentence: "I'm not a Racist, but.."
You can be certain you're about to hear the most racist shit ever.
Spencer uses that eyerolling logical convention A LOT.
"You might think I should have known better, but.." is invariably followed by justification after justification in the form of horrific experiences meant to excuse mindblowingly bad decisions.
I genuinely empathize with the author, but truly hope that most people are more grounded in reality than *this*.
"You might think I should love my biracial daughter, but.."🙄

John Blake Publishing Inc did well to enlist reader Rachel Atkins on this product. Her diction, cadence, and voice-acting are flawless. Atkins tends to read a little bit too slowly (set playback speed at 1.10X for the optimal experience), but with a matter-of-fact tone that matches the text *perfectly*.

In toto, outstanding production values elevate this jawdropping tale to a 7/10 star offering. I feel fortunate that Audible included this audiobook as a 'Plus' selection.. because it wouldn't be crazy to spend a Credit on it for the right reader.

Heartbreaking and beautifully written

I had a hard time listening as it really made me so angry, sad and sick to listen the awful things Caitlin has gone through. I can’t even imagine how hard has been for her to write this book but I admire her courage and resilience.

Shining the light on horror, happening everyday.

The author journeys through the hell of her memories to shed some light on the trafficing pandemic sweeping the nation. At times I wanted to scream at her parents and hug that little girl. When her love for her daughters gives her strength to get away my heart rejoiced. These pedophile must be stopped! Thank you for sharing your story.

Heartbreaking

Dear author, I’m so sorry this happened to you, locks aren’t the only fortress and you don’t deserve the shame you sound like you have. You weren’t at fault, it wasn’t your fault or choice. It doesn’t matter what “exits” there may of been. I’m sorry.

Heartbreaking!!!!!!!!!

Caitlin Spencers' story was just horrific /heartbreaking/destructive/and many other verbs I cant use to describe how I was feeling listening to what happened to this lady, and survived to tell her story. Many times I could place myself there to rescue her,
How could this be happening and no-one to rescue her!!! The unfortunate thing about this is its real, and its happening RIGHT NOW across the world.

Heartbreaking

Incredibly heartbreaking, yet bravely written. This woman's story deserves to be told. It is also very eye-opening to how these evils have been successful; the more exposed these evils are, less power is given to continue these. Rachel effectively narrates this story as well.

Hear breaking

I never have written a review but this book is very powerful and very hard to get through at times. especially for people who have experienced any kind of trauma especially rape or sexual abuse .
For thousands of years black women were treated this way through slavery and even long after slavery was no longer legal, even up to today .
They had to watch their own children be raped as well so I understand her when she wants people to realize that there is also a reverse racism for people who have experienced trauma and now turn on white women like it’s their turn to experience it .
When will this vicious cycle end

I believe there are many similar atrocities being committed all over the world and as long as people keep getting away with it.
People will keep committing them .
There are plenty of people who consider themselves to be good respectable people that do very horrific things
As long as no one prevents them and they receive no consequences
